Roger walked out of the building quickly as Lily kept on his heels. Jeremy carefully sauntered out, drawing eyes to him from around the bar. His reputation of King of the South Shore was well known, but he did not instill fear. The people seemed more starstruck than afraid.
Once all three were outside, Lily noticed that Jeremy stood in the sunlight just fine. She stared at him for a moment, and he looked confused at her concern. Roger rolled his eyes before motioning to the sky.
"Oh, sorry, vampires can walk in the sunlight. Very few vampire myths are true, like most things. I can eat garlic, walk in the sunlight, and many of my clan members are deeply religious. A lot of Catholics and Lutherans. Although, the wooden stake thing is true. Not sure why, but nothing cuts our skin except wood. Wait, silver does the trick, too, as long as you use it for decapitation. I have people researching on the reasons why that is, but we haven't had any real headway yet," Jeremy explained as Lily slowly nodded, surprised.
"What other myths are false?" she asked as Jeremy started to walk toward their old apartment.
"Werewolves are always werewolves, they don't change during the full moon. They just disguise themselves as humans, but I think a group of them created the full moon myth so they didn't have to deal with the glimmer once a month," Jeremy answered as he continued to tell her different myths and why they were started.
Once they arrived at the apartment, Lily and Roger went up to pack essentials for the time being. Lily packed her clothes and items within a minute, but Roger took a little bit longer. He never really had to pack for longer than a few days, and he had no idea what he would need. He packed simple clothes and his self care products along with a few books and a picture of him and Sonya.
Seeing the photo, he sighed, realizing that he wasn't going to be able to keep his promise to her. He probably wouldn't be able to make it to her bar anytime soon, but he wondered if he could let her know somehow. Or maybe he should drop it. He didn't have to hang on. He didn't have to see her and pour salt in his wounds. He wondered if Lily was right and if he would be better off on his own for a while.
Jeremy waited outside the apartment, trying to give them more personal space. He did want to make a good last impression on Lily, even though he screwed up his first impression. Although, he was surprised when Roger came out first with a letter. Lily closed the door and locked it as Roger handed the vampire the envelope.
"If I have to go through with this, I need you to deliver this now before we leave," Roger instructed as Jeremy took the letter. Jeremy noticed the name and glanced at Roger before agreeing. Lily hadn't seen vampire super speed before, but it gave a new meaning to the phrase 'here one second, gone the next.' It was like he vanished from existence and there was no trace of him. Roger exhaled, as if a large weight had been lifted from his shoulders.
Within a few minutes, Jeremy returned with a different note, surprising Lily. She wondered if he employed this power often, and if she needed to get used to it. Roger took the note from Jeremy, and smiled as he read it. Lily pursed her lips, wondering if it was from Sonya.
"Is that from her?" Lily asked quietly, concerned for her partner. He nodded and sighed.
"It is, and she wants to get coffee next week," Roger answered with a smile. Lily glanced up at Jeremy, who looked forlorn. Neither of them knew if they should tell Roger that coffee was a bad plan, or even know how to tell him. Lily had never seen such a smile cross his lips, but she knew that this would cause him greater pain. However, as if on the same wavelength, both Lily and Jeremy decided to remain silent.
After Roger placed the letter in his pocket, Jeremy made a phone call and walked away from them. Lily looked to Roger, wondering if she should talk to him about Sonya again, but she decided to leave it. She didn't know him well enough to have a well formed opinion on the subject, and there was no guarantee that she would be his partner after this. It seemed that they might be reassigned, depending on how this mission went. Soon, Jeremy came back with a smile on his face.
"The car should be here in a few minutes," Jeremy informed, putting his phone back in his pocket. Lily nodded as Roger pulled out his phone as well, punching in a number. It seemed the Sonya had also given him her number.
