After that, I asked a few others, and it all ended the same way, failure. I just didn't know what else to do. No one wanted to join me. They all had their reasons, and it was good enough where I couldn't debate. I just needed someone to believe in me, to take a chance; then I knew I wouldn't let them down. But I guess I was just too much of a risk.
My head dropped down as I was ready to take off my beanie and call it a day. But, while I was feeling down, something in my heart wouldn't let me give up, and that's when I turned on the lights. I had a new and improved plan. I needed believers! If no one will believe my words, then I'll just make them believe my actions. If I were to take on a high-ranking quest and completed it, solo, then everyone would see how great of a leader I was. Then they all would be lined up to join my guild, and they might even make me a hero right then and there. Ahaha, wow, it was only the first book, and I was already about to get my happy ending, talk about an economical series.
In the city hall, pass a horde of guild members, there was a great board. It was aboard for the public and the daring. This was the board where people post-quest, that they got approved from the city hall. It was my first time visiting the board, and it was quite impressive. The quests were organized from E to SSS. E was the lowest rank. Therefore it was the easiest quest. E quests were meant for noobs and people who couldn't pay rent on time. You know to get your bank going. Then you have ranks D, C, B, A, S, SS, and SSS. D was easy and simple. So, as you go up the ladder, the quests were harder. You get it right? If not, too bad.
My eyes instantly went to where the SSS rank quest would be. I was searching for the most daring and dangerous quest. "Okay, let's see," I said to myself. I searched up and down the wall, but there wasn't any SSS quest. What was up? Didn't the world need saving or something? I started to huff and puff as I began to pout. "Why was this so complicated!" I then slammed my fist on the Guild Board, and unwanted attention was surrounding me. I genteelly smiled as I turned from the crowd.
No, getting upset wasn't the answer. When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade, but life then didn't give me any sugar, so I was stuck with sour water.
I then went down the line to SS side, and it was the same, nothing. As I was losing hope, a cloud opened, and the sun's light came beaming down on a shiny quest form made of silver. The light blinded me as I squinted my eyes, struggling to see. It was the sugar for my lemonade!
On the tip-top of the requested wall, the highest place where it could be found, and where it made no sense to be, rested an S quest request. My eyes lit up as it became clear to my vision. I knew it wasn't exactly what I was wanting, so I decided to go home.
Just kidding, I was actually staring up at the quest, thinking: how anyone could post the thing there. I guess they didn't want just anyone accepting it. Luckily this was no problem. I then kicked jumped up the wall, and when I reached the top of the ledge, I grabbed it with one hand and pulled myself up with a front flip. Managing to keep my balance, I caught the quest form. It was easy as…
Suddenly, the wall began to shake and started wobbling everywhere. I tried to keep my balance, but, this weak board that couldn't support my light body. Yes, I was light, and that's all you needed to know about my weight.
The wall finally snapped and took me down with it. My screams, mixed with the crashing sounds, echoed throughout the hallway, and all the king's horses and all the king's men, came to see what all the ruckus was about.
"Hey, what happened to the requested wall?" A man questioned.
And like the undead rising from the dead, my hand popped out the mound of papers that buried me, and soon came my head. "It's okay people. I'm alright. Long live the princess, heh." I said as I started to dust myself off.
"You idiot! What did you do!?" The man said while pulling his hair.
I looked at all the angry people and then looked behind me. The once beautiful, lovely, organized request wall, was now in ruins and dust floated the area. "ooohhhh…" I said as I glanced at the crowd once more, and they had pulled out pitchforks, pickaxes, rakes, and shovels; one was even trying to get a blowtorch going.
"H-hey guys," I started. "I know what it looks like, but it's not what it looks like." An awkward silence came about as no one seemed to believe me.
"I got the torch going!" a man cheered from the back.
I took a hard swallow. "I'm actually a victim here too. In fact, the punk who did this just went that way." I pointed to the east for everyone to look, but they all kept their eyes on me.
"we think you're the punk who did this." The leader said.
"W-what!? Now that's going too far!" I placed my hands on my hips and frowned my eyebrows as I tried to exchange my nervousness for some rage. "I'm offended that you all would think such a rude thing. I'm so offended that I'm going to go home and eat!"
As everyone glared at me, I picked up my quest and started to speed walk, but not before long; it turned into a full sprint after the leader shouted, "Is she serious? Get her men!"
