I like how Peri's gem is in a dog cage. It's still neatly placed on a rolled up blanket, and he's still taking care of it, but it's in a cage to keep her from getting out or attacking when she does regenerate since she is an enemy. Also, a dog cage isn't exactly a maximum security prison cell.
It's a clever idea, but maybe not so well executed. He's cautious of her and not entirely trusting (being an enemy), but still compassionate (both bringing her back, and giving her a blanket).
All in all, that's such a Steven thing to do!
