A Children’s Hospital, Northern Texas
Three days after U.S. Officials release report about lab explosion.
Beep beep beep. I can hear the monitors for both my boys making their rhythmic sounds in the background. I have readjusted myself in this chair countless times with no chance at comfort. How many days have I been at this hospital now? Two, no wait it has been three days now. Damn, I am so tired and feel like hell. Both of them are stable now and the doctors still have no clue what is going on. Lexi had some big contract she needed to do research for so I am here alone. God, I am so tired. I will just close my eyes for a second. Just one second….
Wait? Where am I wasn’t I just in the hospital? I opened my eyes to see florescent light fixtures hanging from the ceiling at an odd angle through a smoky red haze. There is the smell of fire so thick I can taste even chemicals on my tongue. Why am I not choking on this? With every breath I take I can feel a pain in my right side, like I have a broken rib or two. I don’t remember getting injured. I know the feeling of busted ribs too well though, oh far too well. There seems to be emergency lights still on somewhere but I can see fine in this limited light aside from the smoke. Just what happened here? I must be dreaming. I can hear crunching of glass as I am walking forward. Wow I have to remember not to eat the hospital cafeteria food so much. I guess what you eat can cause weird dreams, damn tuna salad. This place looks like a war zone. Wait is that lab equipment over there? It looks like some type of lab equipment with a few beakers still intact next to it. On the floor beneath the table it looks like someone dumped a pile of ground up meat with torn clothes mixed in. That can’t be right? But my head turns as I keep walking for some reason I seem to be processing this from different perspectives. Well dreams sure can be fun.
“Master, please do be careful. We don’t know how stable the structure is yet and you are still injured from the battle.” Some male voice to my left says. Master? Ha, now Lexi would get a kick out of this. My ego is definitely in overdrive. Just exactly who is this guy here? Guess that explains my ribs hurting. Now that I think about it I can feel a few other injuries to my body, for some reason they don’t seem to hurt as much, it is almost like they are healing.
“Sire, we must get clear before the others come through. That last attack will only keep them at bay for a while. You know that if they find us here like this…” Another male to my right says. Sire? What the hell? That is for a guy. And who are these others? Exactly what did my brain come up with this time to kill me?
“You know what to do. I don’t need the likes of you to remind me.” Whoa, that came out of my mouth but that wasn’t me. That was a male’s voice. A sexy male voice but a male voice not my voice at all. What is going on here? He/I turn his/my head. I see another man in front of me, he is about 6’2” with an athletic build, pale blue eyes somewhat hidden in a dark ragged cloak. The cloak seems to keep moving as if there is a breeze or maybe it has a life of its own. I can tell it has seen better days. The owner of this body I seem to be seeing through speaks to him. “You, Dog! Go fetch my babies. They seem to have made a mess of the humans that resided here. I want to leave this place now so make it quick. Even you can’t fuck this up.” This ‘Dog’ bows and leaves to go do as he was told. The owner of this body continues walking through a doorway and my vision seems to blur. The process reminded me of the carnival rides that would spin you in a circle and if you tried to watch the onlookers it became impossible to see anything. The swirling sight of colors was horrid, I thought I was going to throw up but of course this is just a bad or weird dream. Note to self, no more tuna salad ever before sleep.
