Even after 30 year of being with Master Edwin and his coven, I felt out of place and he knew that. I asked him multiple times if I could leave for a year or so, but he would always say that it was a dangerous world out there.
One night, I was with Master Edwin, and we had just finished the hotel’s closing paperwork. “Anna,” he looked at me like I was a fragile doll.
“Yes?”
“Did you still want to leave?”
I stayed silent not knowing where this was going. “Sir, I want to be free and live outside of the coven, but I would never want to leave you.” If I wasn’t mistaken, I would say him was blushing. “However, I know that you care for me deeply, and you wish for my safety.”
He looks at me with that firm look. “I will allow you to leave the establishment, under one condition.”
“What’s the condition?”
“You will have to stay with this coven for the rest of your life, if you come back to the Hotel.”
I looked at him. "But, that would mean I would never see you again, Master."
He looks at me with sad eyes, "I know my dear."
"Are you fine with this?"
"No. However, I do want you to be happy."
"Master.. I accept the condition.”
Within 24 hours, I had received a check for $45,000, and I left the hotel establishment. I assume that is what Edwin gave to me that much money to live with forever.
After a few months, everything was fun and simpler than it was at the hotel. However, within that year, I met a guy, Devin Smith. He's a 23 year old, business man, who just adores puppies. I would have to say that this past year had been nothing, but amazing because of Devin.
Three years pass, and Devin and I are making dinner.
"So?"
I looked at Devin. He had the pizza dough rolled on the pan and had the sause spread all over. "It looks good. We should put cheese on it."
"That would be perfect."
I laughed. "Is there a reason why you want to stay the night tonight?"
"Actually, there is."
I turned around slowly, looking away from the kitchen sink. "What is it?"
He starred into my eyes, "I love you, Anna. I have for the last few years." I kept starring at his big brown eyes. "I was wondering if you would mar..."
RING! RING! RING!
"Hello, Collin's residence?"
"Anna, we have a major problem."
"Who is Anna?" Devin asked, curious to see who was calling me.
"It's a family member, give me one second," I walk out to the hall, and continue the call. "Henry? What's wrong?"
"Anna, Master Edwin is injured."
"What do you mean?"
"One of the Elders tore his arm off. Currently, we're getting two humans so he can feed to heal, but Anna, it looks really bad."
"How bad?"
"Anna, I really don't think he's going to make it. Plus, he's asking to see you."
I shivered. Master Edwin meant the world to me, but what if this was some scam to get me to go back to the Hotel. However, Master Edwin has not contacted me since I left. "Tell him I'll be there in a few days. I'm all the way in California."
"I'll let him know." Henry, then hung up.
"What was that?"
"One of my family members is really sick. They don't think he's going to make it, so I'm go back home." I start to clean up from the meal.
"Let me come with you."
"NO!" I shouted, Devin didn't know what I truly was, and he wasn't about to find out.
"Why?"
"I just," I was studdering, trying to figure out a lie to tell him. "I don't know how they would feel about you and me. My family is a very strict family."
"So, is mine, but that didn't stop me from introducing you to them."
He was giving so many good points. "Wasn't there something you were trying to tell me before I answered that call?"
"Yes, but it can wait."
"No, what is it Dev?"
"I wanted to know if you would do me the honor and being my bride?"
