Vlalan lightly chuckled as he finished his tea, a warm blanket wrapped over his shoulders. "I owe you an explaination?!"

"Yes!" Elle shouted, still pacing. "Why did my father die suddenly- he isn't prone to heart attacks. And why'd you take my pendant only for you to loose it too?!"

Vlalan chuckled but he stopped when he saw Elle's serious face. "Has your father ever told you about the Harmony Organization?"

"The what?"

"Harmony Organization," Vlalan answered. "It's a group of people, about ten to forty, who practice modern magic with the mix of science and modern technology." Elle nodded. "Well, the top commanding officers have names such as the Anti-Christ because Christians believe we go against the laws of God."

"So what's your real name?"

"It's Vlalan Nine-Nine-Nine," he answered. "I'm the last of the top nine commanding officers. Your father was Nine-Nine-Seven."

Elle raised a brow, "Okay..."

"It was said, that a few years after our creation 70 years ago the Christians created a group to go against us. The Melody Organization." Vlalan continued. "They have 'Holy' names such as Tidus and Angelique."

"My mother's name was Angelique."

"I know. They're by alphabetical backwards so she was the last of the nine or something in command." Vlalan answered.

"Who was that who beat you up earlier?"

"Ah, Nine-Nine-Two. An old man who's rather tough as I just learned," Vlalan laughed. "Now I know why he's ranked higher than me."

"So what about my pendant?"

Vlalan scratched his chin, "Well, it's called Memento and was discovered by Harmony's founder 70 years ago in a mine. It gave him greater magical power and seemed to bring back fond memories. Whenever one of us touch it we get fond memories back with stronger power. --And the people of the Melody Organization seem weaker. We believe it gives them terrifying memories."

"So, my dad was in Harmony and my mom was in Melody? And my pendant was--"

"I'm not sure exactly," Vlalan interrupted. "My superior Nine-Nine-Three ordered me to get the pendant from you before your brother could get ahold of it."

"Daiji?"

"Also known as Joseph, second in command of Melody."

Elle sat in the chair across from Vlalan. "A war is going to break out soon and that pendant holds the key to not only our survival but how the world will view magic and technology in the coming years."

"So why did my father uh... Nine-Nine-Seven order you to watch me?"

"To get the pendant and to see if you were on a side yet," Vlalan answered. "When you had the pendant did you get fond memories and feel warm inside?" Elle looked at Vlalan thinking this was a huge joke. "Because if you didn't then I'll have to kill you. It would mean you are held by the Melody Organization, who in exchange for power are given great terrible sad memories...."
