After navigating through the flurry of civilians, Ethan and his family had spotted their tour guide to the city. The driver was standing patiently alongside a black limousine (courteous of the mayor and the head of the Science department of the city), looking at his wrist, where a miniature hologram screen was displayed. Looking up, he spotted the Willburn family approaching. Shutting off his device, he gave them a warm greeting.
“Hello, you must be the Willburn family, welcome to Aelwynne,” proceeding to step aside for Ethan and his parents to see the city in its entirety, then continuing his introduction, “I do hope you enjoy your time here. I will be your driver and tour guide, I am happy to answer any questions you will have about our city. Come, the tour starts now.”
Opening the door, Ethan steps in to take the seat near the window to have a closer look at the city when passing by as his parents chose the seats across from him. After taking their seats, the driver enters the driver seat and proceeds to drive towards the city.
Pressing a selection of buttons, the windows in the passenger section of the limousine fade away for them to have a clearer view. Driving along a small road that is fenced off, they enter the first section of the city.
“This is the Agriculture Growth and Preservation district, where we have created secured bio-domes for certain types of plants and animals that are endangered of becoming extinct to grow without having to worry about the environment outside their enclosure.” Looking out through the windows are several white domes, all with a clear window ceiling. Outside them are generators for power that runoff from solar energy, and security guarding all possible entryways towards the domes.
“We have made it our priority that the bio-dome provides all that the animals and plants need to thrive. We monitor all the enclosures from surveillance cameras. Along with these bio-domes, we have a variety of farmland, providing our necessities for fruits and vegetables.” Looking at the other side of the highway, Ethan spots several fields being attended by farmers. Fields containing spring crops, such as strawberries, green beans, cauliflower, and so forth, along with a field comprised of rice.
"My, what a wonderful sight! I was always one who favored homegrown food." Yasmine announced, amazed by the variety of crops.
Returning a chuckle of amusement, the driver replied, “Well ma’am, this isn’t our city’s prime jewel. In fact, we are coming up on it right now.”
Changing his path, the car headed down an underground tunnel, and within seconds, the scenery had changed. Driving under an overhanging sign, they were greeted by an amazing park that was at least the size of 3 football stadiums combined.
“Many people say you save the best for last, well, I wanted to show you all the jewel of our city, the Golden Plaza.” The driver's tone was filled with joy and excitement, as he drove through the park. A pond was centered in the middle, with multiple pathways winding through, leading to different entryways to the park. Small pavilions were scattered among the park, where families sat to enjoy the time the nature around them. Black Cherry, Sugar Maple, and Heaven Trees grow from several spots, casting shadows among the park. Children pranced among the grass, while adults were either enjoying a stroll, reading a book, or laying across a blanket to relax under the spring sun.
"Wow…" Ethan whispered about, too amazed to raise his voice at the brilliant scenery he was witnessing. His parents too were too enwrap by awe, couldn't even utter a word to express their opinions.
“Mind-blowing, right?” The driver questioned, enjoying the sight of newcomers in awe of the park. “I always come here to enjoy the peace and quiet. All that you see here was constructed by the Environment Voice for Earth association or E.V.E. for short.”
While still amazed by the scene in front of them, the family didn’t notice the car came to a halt.
“Oh dear, looks like there was a malfunction with the water supply for the flower garden.” Ethan’s attention turned toward the intersection ahead of them. A tower of water was bursting out of a pip that was unearthed from the ground. Remembering what the driver had just spoken, Ethan turned his gaze to see the garden.
The field itself was sectioned off by a metal fence that came up to an average-sized person’s knee. Within the enclosure was an assortment of bright and colorful flowers.
“Ah, such a sight to see. These botanists are hired by E.V.E corp. to oversee seasonal changes to the arrangement of flowers, making sure their conditions are well met to thrive. What you see there are carefully grown rare-breed flowers that give the park a unique image. They are fenced off, but anyone who wishes to observe them, they must have permission from an E.V.E representative. Since we are in Spring, you'll see exclusive flowers under this season being displayed here or being sold at the local market here in the city.”
Within the garden, multiple botanists, dawning white lab-coats with a mint-green trim across the stitch line, were attending the flowers, monitoring their conditions due to the water burst coming from the street. Some were spraying the ground with water to accommodate for the loss of water, while others were analyzing and talking amongst themselves about possible causes for the system to malfunction.
“Oh dear, it seems that some didn’t make it…” Ethan’s father, Irwin, had gasped. Following the gaze of where his father was seeing, he sees a dried patch of flowers. The atmosphere within the car turned slightly dejected, but quickly lightning the mood, Yasmine quickly announced, “There’s no need to feel sad now. The city of Aelwynne had just hired the best technician/engineer and software developer the state has ever known. Isn’t that right, Irwin?” Looking toward her husband, she expected the same enthusiasm. Nodding with her, he added, “Yes, this will be our priority. Seeing such a sad sight shouldn’t be allowed. We’ll help in any way we can, don’t worry, sir.”
Happily laughing at their support, the driver replied, “If I were the voice for the entire city, I would thank you from the bottom of my heart. But, I let the mayor and the head of the E.V.E corp. thank you when they meet with you.” The driver continued his conversation between the married couple, while Ethan thought to himself while returning his gaze to the garden. ‘Same old Mom and Pop. Jumping to help in any way possible. But… how am I so important for that job they offe-… Hm?’
Ethan thoughts were put on hold when he saw something one wouldn’t expect to see. A blonde bobbed hair girl dawning a petite white dress with a light green bow on the front of her dress was knelt down in the dried-up patch of flowers, not being bothered by the frantic botanists working around her.
Blinking his eyes a few times, just to confirm if what he is seeing is real, he suddenly notices the flower in her hand has somehow...
...came back to life.
Its vibrate white color almost blinding him. He was now thinking his mind was playing tricks on him, surely it was dead before, but how…
His thoughts were cut short by the driver. “Finally, the construction workers made a pathway for us to pass through. After you all have settled in, why not take some time and visit here when you can, you won’t regret it.” The driver proposed while following the temporary road to the next district.
While driving away, Ethan tried to maintain his sight on the little. While her hair was something he can forget easily, he won't forget her emerald green eyes, that shined in the sunlight.
