It took at least a dozen attempts to figure out dialogue for the first panel that would establish the information I needed without sounding too exposition-y. (Though it's still better than the first draft of the story where Imel flat-out told Ted that the Boss was aquatic and spoke an untranslateable language before she shoved him in there.)
