As Ashley parked the car I started regret my decision to help her out, the parking lot was packed! Even when I used to go out I hadn't seen it this busy.
"Wooooow," Ashley said "there must be some crazy sale or something for there to be this many cars!" I just nodded my head as I got out of the car and closed my door. I had been so happy to be home and ready to relax that I hadn't bothered to eat and my stomach was rumbling. "Hey, I'm starving do you mind if we go to the food court first?" she asked me.
"Ya that's fine, I was actually getting hungry too." I replied. We wove between the parked cars trying to get to the big doors that were the entrance to the mall. I sighed as I stuck my hand out to pull the doors open and we made our way to the food court. "What do you want to eat? It doesn't matter to me I can eat anything." They had a huge assortment of restaurants and I would have had a hard time choosing anyway.
"Hmmm, ok then let's eat at that pizza place I haven't had pizza in forever." She grabbed my wrist so that we wouldn't get separated in the crowd and I knew that but I just couldn't stop my hand as I lightly smacked her fingers.
"Oh I'm so sorry, it was a reflex I didn't mean to," I said, "I don't usually like people touching me." She just looked at me for a few seconds before a big smile spread across her face.
"Alex there's nothing to be sorry about, I shouldn't have just grabbed you like that. I should have said something first so that's my fault. You're allowed to not want to be touched and I should have asked so I'm sorry." Ashley said. I was stunned. People usually freak out when I tell them I don't want to be touched. Like somehow I'm making their life hard. And somehow this random, quirky, eccentric girl gets it. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if she bothered me more.
"Let's go get some pizza." I said and I started walking toward the counter. We ordered, got our slices and sat down. This pizza is actually kinda good, not great but good. I finished eating first and went to use the restroom when I came back I noticed that Ashley was standing up talking to some guys. She looked irritated but I didn't want to bother her in case she actually wasn't but as I walked up it sounded like they were arguing about wanting to take her on a date. Of course that's what was happening. If she hadn't looked so mad I wouldn't have bothered to help but as I look at her her eyes slid to mine and she mouthed the words "help."
I walked up behind her and slid my hand in hers and interlocked our fingers, "Sorry I took so long, who are friends?" I asked. The guys immediately locked eyes on our hands and stuttered apologies before running away.
"Thank you so much! They were so persistent they just wouldn't go away." she said.
"Don't worry about it. You done eating? Let's get your shopping done." I said.
