"Landing to Earth complete."
"Bio Electronic Life Systems activated. Humanoid stasis pods deactivated."
"Hull doors opening."
"Pod doors unlocked. Pods opening."
"Oxygen percentage normal. No sign of dangerous levels of any chemicals in the air."
Shane looked to Alice and Mira and then flipped the green switch on the control panel.
A monitor turned on in front of them, listing lines of code and words in light blue over black.
"Congratulations, Human Resurrection Team." came the computer's female voice. "You have successfully warped and landed on Earth. All toxicity levels are normal. Temperture is 75F. Human life is accessable. Allow humans to depart the ship upon their own." It paused, letting something load and then beep. "Now activating seed plantation, animal resurrection, and the stores of clothes and water for humanoids."
Then came the words the three never thought they'd hear.
"Relieved of duty."
The computer continued whirring away, managing it's priorities.
Shane exhaled, relaxing. Alice smiled and waved, running to go outside.
"Uhm... Shane?"
"Yeah?" Shane turned to Mira.
"Thanks.... For going back to Earth."
"Sure." Shane smiled a bit. He flipped a switch on the control panel, lighting up notification lights all over the ship to the rest of the small crew that they had arrived on Earth and were able to depart.
After a short while, Shane was outside sitting on the cement edge of a bridge leading to the large metal docking bay. He was watching quietly as people began to come out and look around. He watched V.I.P.'s, and poor people. He watched as they all came out.
Alice walked over and sat next to Shane after a large portion of people had gone by.
"So!"
"So?" he asked.
"What are you planning to do?"
"Rebuild a bike and ride it to a place where I can be a hermit."
She chuckled. "Really? C'mon Shane, what about Mira?"
"He's probably taking his brother to an inn to rest until the hospitals finish opening up."
Alice frowned. "You... Don't care about him?"
"I do." Shane shifted a bit, not looking to her. "But we're back on Earth. It's only been a couple years, but already that feeling of being alone has come and gone."
"It's back again, right?"
Shane nodded a bit, sighing again. "I'm smart and all. I know when it's time to bow out of the plotline."
"But... Shane." Alice leaned towards him. "Mira will--"
"Go nuts without me?" Shane chuckled. "No. ...He won't." He smiled to her. "I was the gentleman. I gave him what he wanted- the return to Earth."
Alice nodded a bit, looking to all the people as they continued to come out. "It won't be easy to fix what we've done here."
"It's possible." Shane said, looking up as another from the fleet came down to land. "56 large ships, and 234 small ones."
Alice looked up, watching as more came into view to land from the sky. "Yeah..." She looked back to where Shane had been, watching him walk away. "Any way for Mira to find you?"
"Tell him I left to the coastline." Shane waved.
