[SUMMARY: Having been eaten, Man-Shrimp is again reborn, fresh and new, free of any pain or illness. Or is he??]
Sigh.
Probably the worst page of the entire series. It's also the height of my experimentation with looseness of brushwork, as evidenced by the last two panels. I think it worked in the last panel, capturing Keisuke with just a few strokes, but Man-Shrimp looks a little bit too disconnected. I also experimented with my panel borders, creating something much more loose and organic (actually, the Bristol board I drew this page on was warped from some kind of minor water damage, and I let my sketching follow the curves of the paper---again, just experimenting a bit).
I went back and tried to redo this one some, changing the backgrounds from solids to gradients and reworking the "rebirth" effects, but it still remains the low point.
As you can see, I was also struggling to get a grasp on the human figure (panel 4) and didn't quite capture Keisuke's expressions in the top panels.
Oh, well. Live and learn.
Story-wise, some people are still confused by Man-Shrimp's power.
Again, you eat him. He heals you or rejuvenates you. Then he is reborn.
Of course, the big "joke" here is that Keisuke doesn't know where Man-Shrimp will reappear from and speculates that he may come out of his dooky hole. :P
Oh, another story point that seemed lost on many readers: When Man-Shrimp is "reborn," he should be in PERFECT health, but hear he's suddenly coughing. You may also notice that his "belly seam" is still split and green. So... something is still wrong. His healing/rebirth process is not quite working.
The result of a freak accident which conjoined shrimp fisherman Les Clay with thousands of netted shrimp, forming them into one unique being, the Delectable Man-Shrimp has long been a champion of the watery world. However, the tides have changed in recent years. An ancient evil has taken hold of the ocean's depths. Man-Shrimp's friends and allies have died or vanished, leaving our diminutive hero to languish at the bottom of the sea. Will he rise up and meet the challenges that lie ahead?
