When Sam got home he took a long shower and thought about MinJoon. The more he thought about MinJoon, the more sure he became. He made up his mind. He left a text for his mom so she wouldn’t be worried when she got home from work, and then he started packing somethings. He put a change of clothes, toothbrush, socks, underwear, headphones, a pillow, and a swimsuit into a small bag. He pulled out his phone and unblocked MinJoon’s number.
He texted “Hi MinJoon, it’s Sam. I can come tonight. Send me the address please.”
He got an almost instant reply “Sam you save my life 🙏🏼!!! Thank you so so SOmuch! Send me your address, I’ll pick you up!!!💗”
Sam stared at the heart emoji at the end of the message. Who did MinJoon think he was? What they were?
Sam sent his address to MinJoon and finished packing. He only packed for a night or two, hoping he’d only have to stay until MinJoon’s parents left.
At 5:00 pm Sam saw a car silently pull up outside his apartment. It was a Tesla model S, matte black with tinted windows and red rims. Sam suddenly felt a surge of fear and regretted telling MinJoon he’d come. He peered out the window and watched the door of the car open, revealing a scarily handsome tall dark haired guy wearing aviator shades and a black leather jacket.
MinJoon walked up the steps to the second floor and looked for the door with Sams number on it. Sam cowered inside, sweaty hands clutching his luggage. The doorbell rang.
Sam dragged himself towards the door and pulled it opened it with dread, as if it was the grim reaper on the other side. MinJoon smiled hugely at Sam and whipped off his shades, pulling Sam into a hug.
“Sam I can feel your heart beating,” MinJoon exclaimed, releasing Sam to look at him, “are you okay?”
Sam just swallowed and nodded. He didn’t even try to say anything, he’d stutter too much.
“Is this all you’re bringing?” Asked MinJoon, easily hefting Sams bag with one arm. Sam had no response so MinJoon went out to the Tesla and put the bag into the back.
“Are you coming?” Called MinJoon to Sam, who was still standing in the same spot. Sam slowly left his apartment, closed the door tightly behind him, and reluctantly descended the stairs to the street where MinJoon’s car was parked. MinJoon opened the passenger door and Sam climbed in, regretting all his life decisions.
As MinJoon drove the scenery changed from dumpy apartments and dorms too nice neighborhoods, then mansions, and finally a huge secluded apartment complex up on a hill. Sam stared out of the window in shock. They were pulled up in front of a huge black iron gate, that slowly opened when MinJoon leaned out his window and punched in a passcode on keypad. They drove up a long paved driveway, lined with tall well groomed palm trees, each with a light shining up on them from the ground. Then a building came into view. It was huge, tasteful stucco walls and tile roof, with a monstrous azure swimming pool in the courtyard.

The swimming pool was lit with color changing lights, and surrounded by plush pool chairs and umbrellas. Sam also spotted a fire pit and barbecues before they drove around behind the building where the parking garage was. There was a tennis court, a zen garden with cacti and sand, a garden, a golf course, a patio, a dog park, and a second building Sam assumed was the gym, judging by the rows of treadmills and workout equipment displayed in the well lit windows.
MinJoon drove under ground onto a large parking garage, which was only half full, and seems to only house cars that normal people don’t own. Sam saw about 15 other Teslas, several Lamborghini’s, and even a Bugatti. MinJoon parked in between a orange custom rubicon and the neon Lamborghini MinJoon had driven to the mall once.
“Well, we’re here...” Said MinJoon looking at Sam to see what he thought. Sam was silent. He was panicking inside, and couldn’t talk or think. He was at a strangers apartment. To stay the night. And the apartment was the richest place Sam had ever seen in his life. MinJoon looked worried about Sam, he peered at he smaller boys face anxiously.
“What do you think?” MinJoon asked. Sam just nodded dumbly, leaving MinJoon looking confused.
“Well I’ll get your bag. If you need some time to adjust or something that’s fine, we can sit in the car for awhile until your ready to go in...” MinJoon offered kindly. Sam nodded, so MinJoon got Sams bag out of the trunk and then sat next to him in the car.
“I guess your apartment is pretty different from mine...” MinJoon reflected, “But It’s just for a night or two.”
Sam took a deep breath.
“Ok, we can go in now.” He told MinJoon. The taller boy smiled warmly and picked up Sams bag.
“Alright! Just follow me.” MinJoon strolled across the parking garage to an elevator, which had potted palm tree outside the door. The elevator was really nice inside. It had a decorative tile floor and marble walls. Sams heart beat faster. Sam watched the LED display panel showing the elevator going up, past the fifth floor, past the the tenth floor, and finally stopping at the 14nth floor.
They stepped out of the elevator into the tiled hall, which was long and decorated with modern art and potted plants. Fancy light fixtures dangled from the ceiling. There was only one apartment on the 14nth floor. MinJoon led Sam to the door with the gold inscription ‘MinJoon Kim’ on the doors. They were double doors with glass windows. There was a lush welcome mat in modern colors, and a tall indoor palm in a large planter next to the door. MinJoon’s name was engraved on a gold plaque above the ‘ring’ doorbell.
MinJoon swiped a key card across a digital pad next to the doorbell and there was a mechanical click. MinJoon swing open the door and held it open for Sam.
“Well here we are!” He Said uncertainly, as all the lights inside automatically flicked on. Sam stepped through the door and felt like he was in a whole new world. The air inside the apartment was perfectly air conditioned, and smelled faintly of vanilla. The ceilings were high, and the walls were hung with modern artwork in tasteful colors. The furniture inside was high quality and sleek, modern decoration at its best. All the colors coordinated and there were manicured potted plants foresting the rooms. The most impressive part of the apartment were the windows. All the outmost walls were glass, floor to ceiling. And through the window, in all it’s glittering beauty, was LA, spread out like a sky of busy lights below.

“How do you live here?” Gasped Sam. MinJoon looked embarrassed and didn’t reply. He changed the subject, telling Sam to make himself at home.
“There’s food in the pantry, a beverage cooler, the freezers stocked, help yourself to anything you want,” MinJoon rambled, gesturing around the apartment, “I put fresh sheets on your bed an there’s towels and soap in your bathroom, if you forgot anything just tell me, I bought you some things Incase you need them.”
Sam was stunned. The environment was so different than what he was used to. And they way MinJoon treated him overwhelmed the blonde boy.
“I-i- ah- um-Th-th- thank y-you...” Sam stuttered, feeling awkward and fidgeting with his hands.
“I hope you like it,” Said MinJoon, “do you want me to show you your room?”
“Oh, I can sleep on the couch, or the floor...” Sam said.
“Oh no!” MinJoon said in horror, “you’re sleeping here. Follow me.” MinJoon took Sams luggage and headed towards a door. Sam followed uncertainly. MinJoon opened the door for Sam with a smile on his face.
It looked like a room from a million dollar home show. The bed was crisply made, and there wasn’t a speck of dust in the whole room. The carpet was plush, and the room was densely forested with exotic palms.

There were about ten pillows on the huge puffy bed, and some things were laid on out on the bed. A brand new electric toothbrush, a pair of silk pajamas, and a box of expensive assorted chocolate. Sam looked at MinJoon with shock. MinJoon looked hopeful and excited.
“M-MinJoon, how can I sleep here? Isn’t this the master bedroom?”
MinJoon chuckled and hid his face.
“No, no Sam. This is just the guest bedroom.”
Sam had no words. What was the master bedroom like? He wondered. MinJoon set Sams bag down and opened the closet. It was a spacey walk-in closet with unending storage.
“You can unpack, put your things wherever you want, your own bathroom is right through that door, tell me if you need anything, literally anything, and I’ll have it for you, okay?” MinJoon said, studying Sams face. Poor overwhelmed Sam just nodded, standing awkwardly in the middle of the room.
“Well I’ll leave you to settle in,” Said MinJoon as he walked towards the door, “I’ll be in the game room down the hall if you need me.”
Sam watched MinJoon disappear into a room down the hall. Sam slowly went over to the bed and ran his hands over it. He wanted to sit down, but the bed seemed too nice to put his butt on. So he sat down on the floor. Sam didn’t tried to decide wether he should unpack first or go see MinJoon. In the end, he decided to go find MinJoon.
“M-MinJoon?” He called tentatively as he tiptoed down the plush rugged shiny wood hallway.
“Here Sam!” Came a cheerful call, accompanying MinJoons face peeking out from the door at the end of the hall.
Same padded down the hallway towards MinJoon’s voice. He pushed open the glass door uncertainly. MinJoon smiled widely, beckoning Sam in.
“Have you ever played fooseball?” MinJoon asked, crossing the room to a full sized custom engraved wood foosball table.
“Uh, n-no...” replied Sam, following MinJoon into the room. It was a huge room, with one wall almost entirely taken up by a flatscreen tv. There was a dart target on the wall, next to some stylish movie posters. The was a pool table on the other side of a the room, and some pinball machines lined another wall. MinJoon grasped the handles of the red team, and gestured to Sam to take control of the blue foosball players.
“I’ll teach you.” Said MinJoon, pointing out the different pokes and their names.
“Alright, basically just try to kick the ball into my goal.” MinJoon finished, dropping the ball onto the playing field. Sam spun his five man wildly, flinging the ball into the air where it hit MinJoon in between the legs with great speed.
“Oof! Bleep Sam!” Groaned MinJoon, doubling over and clapping his hands between his legs. Sam put a hand to his mouth, face bright red. He couldn’t believe what he’d just done. He felt like a horrible idiot.
“I-I’m s-so s-s-sorry!” He gasped, awkwardly edging over to MinJoon, “a-are you o-okay?” He asked worriedly.
“Yeah, yeah, I’m fine,” gasped MinJoon, giving a painful smile.
“MinJoon I’m so so-sorry!” Sam rambled, mortified.
“Oh, don’t worry about it,” exclaimed MinJoon, slowly straightening up, “I’m fine, really. But I’m thinking maybe we save foosball for another day.” He laughed.
