I’m writing this before bed. I’ll detail everything that happened earlier today.
I woke up this morning like every other, tired and confused. These beds suck and waking up in a cold, dark place unlike where I used to live is so surreal.
Today I decided to open up that door I couldn’t get through. The stairs could wait for another day. The door had been plaguing my mind all night. Why was there, for once, a door at the end of a hallway. Not only that but this door was large and reinforced.
I walked out the hallway to hear hello from Eatre who was sitting in direct view. They spoke again.
“There’s new food today. Chicken noodle soup just for you!”
“Thanks Eatre. Say, who brings the food?” I already knew the answer but I want to see if he knew.
“A big robot comes down every week and plops the food right down over there.” He said, not in the slightest indicating where as he has no arms or hands.
I went over to the big crates in the corner that gets stocked with food. Each week the ceiling opens up and the robot I’ve deemed Givre drops the crates of food down then slithers away from where they came.
I grabbed 4 cans and made sure I had my can opener then set off on the hour long journey to the door and stairs.
This trip is almost always the same. Occasionally I’ll spot a new robot along the way that appears to be busy but I never fear them as most are simple bots programmed to do something rather then having an AI unit.
I often sit down at the midpoint of the journey, a large room full of broken wires all lumped in 10 feet high mounds. The room is weird to me as it breaks format and instead of being neat and organized, it’s a complete mess. I assume robots dump other robots remains here but I’ve never seen it happen.
I needed to set off for the door. I had my lock picking tools and hoped the door wasn’t much of a hassle.
Boy I was dumb then. The door was near impossible to open and I wasted a lot of supplies.
I was scared to go into the room. All I could see was a metal walkway surrounded in darkness. No lights or anything, just a sea of black. The walkway appeared to be small but luckily had guard rails.
I stepped on and begin to slowly walk through. I rummaged through my bag to find my flashlight then turned it on and looked around. Nothing. Ahead all I saw was more walkway and looking up, down, or to the sides didn’t help as it was still just darkness. My flashlight was useless.
Right when I couldn’t see the door I came from anymore, a large rumble began deep below me. 3 separate streams of light came up from the darkness. I jumped back then stopped as I could have fallen over the rails.
From the depths a large metal being rose and shone its 3 separate lights right at me. It was massive, it’s head as long as a bus. Right in the middle was a large light, but it also had 2 smaller ones on each side of the center light. All 3 lights converged on me.
It began flashing its central light. It took me a while to realize it must have been Morse code. I scrambled through my backpack for the notes I picked up a few days ago on how to read Morse.
I missed the first few letters but ended up with “...o are you?”. I assumed it was trying to ask me “Who are you?”. I shouted back stating my name. It’s main light flashed rapidly and then began to move around.
It pointed at the door at the other end of the massive room it was in. I walked over and tried to open. No luck. It looked at me and made a fist, the started swinging the punch. I ran but when I looked back I saw it had just punched the door down. Great. It was here to help.
I looked up to it and asked it a simple question.
“What’s your name?”
No response. I studied it’s large face hard and came to a conclusion.
“I will name you TriVis, for your triple vision lights. Are you ok with this name?”
TriVis nodded its head. TriVis it is. It proceeded to sink back into the void below, just to reappear on the other side of the bridge. I smiled. This was an actual sentient robot. If this is a good thing or not is yet to be determined.
I decided to head home, but not before curiosity got the best of me. I looked towards the steel door TriVis punched off, then I noticed it. A strange moonlike glow came from beyond. It lead outside. I haven’t been outside since before I woke up here. Could I finally figure out where I am? Could I leave this place? Whatever it was I would go home and spend a night to think over it and write down the details of the day. I’m excited for tomorrow.
