Jared was lost in slumber still sitting in a chair by the window. A good breeze flowed through the carrying the dampness of autumn and the biting threat of winter in the air. The warm heat that flowed from the electric heater kept him warm. He slipped deeper into sleep as the music played left in loop on the stereo. The bracelets wrapped around his wrists starts to shimmer and glow. Drawing him deeper into another existence.
He stood on a terrace he had never seen before. Watching a little blond boy run about with his mother as played. He starts to go back inside but the curtains would not move. “What’s going on?” He turns to call the woman with the child for help. To find himself staring down at a city below. Inside sat a young man with his back to him lost in his latest creation. The door would not open. “Hey can I get a hand here.” The man suddenly paused as if he heard him. He stood up only to look at his watch grab his jacket and runs out of the room.
The world around him began to swirl he was now at a bridge. He sees and old man waiting by the entrance. “Hurry he calls. I don’t have much time.”
Jared ran toward the old man with his arms wide open wrapping tightly once he was close. “I missed you so much.” He cried as the tears ran down his eyes. (Is this possible? He feels so real. ) “Are you really here. Is this just some whimsical dream?”
The old man laughed. “You will believe what you want. You always do.” He points to the bridge. “There is someone waiting for you to help him. You must take this path to find him.”
“Oh okay.” He pauses. “What are you doing? You said he needs our help lets go.”
The old man shook his head. “Not mines, yours. I have already done all I could.” Hurry I can’t keep this place open for long. This is the last time.
“I am not ready for you to go yet. I want to talk with you while longer. There is so much to say and do.” He grabs his grandfather’s shoulders pleading with him. “Why bring me here if you are going to leave again just like that?”
“To do what I promise. Now go, hurry. ” He smile raising a hand to touch his grandson face. “I miss you too. I won’t let you be alone anymore. Go hurry. I want your heart to smile again.”
Jared wipes his face . “When have I not listen to you.” He hugs him one last time. “I love you grandpa.”
The loving grandfather hugs him back with as much strength as ever. “I love you too. You will be fine, trust me.” He laughs. “When it comes to people, I have always had good taste.”
His grandson laugh giving him one more smile as he turns and hurry away. “I’m trusting you he calls over his shoulder.”
“Sweet Boy, I’m never wrong.”
Just as he starts to turn around. He is swept away to a new place. He stood at the shore of a lake surrounded by mountains. Where is this place?
“You’re with me.”
