Here is the thing about broken hearts and the weekend. They suck. I don't particularly like the weekends that much. It's because my life is a very lonely one. If I am not hanging out with friends then nine times out of ten I am just laying around this stupid house doing absolutely nothing. Combine that with a broken heart and you get a recipe for depression.
I kept replaying everything that had happened between me and Skylar, all that she said and didn't say. It was on a stupid loop in my head and even when I tried to distract myself with tv or something it was still there.
My parents are out of town, again. I swear they only come home for like a week tops before they are gone again.
Wini tried to call me and come over but I told her I wasn't feeling up to it. Which was true. I didn't feel like socializing and explaining why I may or may not be a bad person to a friend who then, in turn, would tell me things maybe I'm not ready to hear. I just don't want to deal with any of it anymore. I just want it to go away. Why can't problems ever just go away?
I am sure Jade told everyone what happened and of course, made me the bad guy, and maybe I am. Maybe I should just accept that I am the villain in this story and that everything I do has selfish intentions.
I just wanted her to love me again.
I was hanging upside down off my bed and staring at the ceiling. My hair touching the floor. The house was silent, as usual. Just me all by myself on a Saturday. Maybe I should get a dog or something.
Sigh.
One of the things that irk me is when people assume I have everything. That I am this local celebrity or something. I mean maybe I am but they don't know the whole story about anything. They assume that I must have tons of friends and be at all these rich lavish parties every weekend. That my family is always living it up and that I am living it up.
Which obviously couldn't be farther from the truth. I hardly ever get invited anywhere and it because people assume I am too good for them that they stay away from me. The little friends I do have, well they have their own lives. You know they have family and significant others to be with. They have many other things they would probably rather be doing than sitting board with me in my oversized house.
My family is so wrapped up in their own lives. Even my parents have a freaking life, most of it without me. I guess I could go on lavish trips and to awesome parties, if I really wanted to, but what fun is that when you're all alone?
I don't really have anyone, not anymore at least. It was fun when I had Skylar. I didn't feel so lonely or like I was just this nobody that people don't want to spend time with. I felt like we really had something special.
Why did I have to mess it up?
I sat up with a grunt and grabbed my phone, I know I shouldn't but I can't just sit around forever. So I called Skylar. It rang and rang and rang until someone answered the line.
"If you ever call her again, I swear to god," Jade said.
I sighed.
"Leave her alone!"
With that, she hung up.
I very much dislike Jade Tate a whole bunch. She might be the first person I actually hate. Yeah... I think I do hate her. I hate Jade Tate.
I got a text message from Skylar's phone that said,
'I'm blocking your number, stay away from her. I mean it. We were happy before you fucked it up. Stay away.'
I clenched my phone hard in my hand and ground my teeth. My eyes watered and I wanted nothing more than to march up to Jade Tate and punch her stupid face. I hate her. How could anyone love someone like her? I really don't get it.
I guess I wasn't in the right state of mind, I was pissed. I had every right to talk to Skylar if I wanted to. So that is how I ended up standing in front of Jade's house. I drove there, parked my car and got out.
Only once I was there, I realized how stupid I was being.
"Jade!" I heard Skylar giggle.
The hairs on my arm stood up.
I walked to the fence and peeked through.
"Got to be faster lover girl." Jade teased Skylar and laughed as Skylar lunged at her in the pool.
"Is this fast enough?" Skylar asked.
"Hmm, I think so." Jade leaned into her embrace and rested her head on Skylar's chest.
I felt like I was going to be sick.
"I'm sorry about yesterday..." Skylar said to her.
"I know."
"I didn't want to, I swear. I just, I was just trying to be a good friend."
"Do you still have feelings for her?" Jade pulled back to look into her eyes.
I felt my heart speed up.
"Yes but not like that. I care about her, I'm worried about her. As a friend. She's not the same Darleen I knew. She's changed. I just want to know if she's okay."
"Looks perfectly fine to me," Jade muttered.
"I'm sorry. It won't ever happen again. I promise. I love you. I love you with all my heart and then some. Hurting you is the last thing I'd ever want to do." Skylar caressed her face.
"Promise me it didn't mean anything?" Jade's voice wobbled.
"I promise. Darleen and I are over, for good. She's just having a hard time with the for good part. I'll talk to her."
"No! You are staying away from her. She'll just attack you again, she's a predator, Skylar. How many times has she forced herself on you like that?"
Skylar shrugged and pulled away.
"You know if you want to spy you can get a better view from the house." Someone said behind me.
I flinched and whirled around.
Mackenzie had her arms crossed and raised an eyebrow at me.
"What, no, I wasn't—"
"Shh! Come on." She grabbed my arm and dragged me into the house.
"Mackenzie I was just leaving." I lie.
"Sure you were." She rolls her eyes and takes me to her room and opens the window just a crack so we can hear what they are saying.
I eye her before moving closer to the window to look out.
"I spy all the time, I make a game out of it. I like to ruin the romance just when things look like they are getting good. It's funny to watch Jade get all pissed off at me. She suspects me but she has no proof." Mackenzie smirks in triumph.
"Wow, well okay then."
"My room is perfect for spying. I can hear everything in this house and especially hear the backyard, the noise carries."
"I mean that's just how she is..." Skylar says to Jade.
"Stop making excuses for her! That's sexual assault, Skylar. Wait... that first time I saw you guys kissing outside your house, was she forcing herself on you then?" Jade asked.
"I mean... it wasn't like that. I mean maybe at first but... I think I liked it."
"Oh my god, was she doing that to you the whole time you two were together?"
"I don't want to talk about this." Skylar turned away.
"You can talk to me if you need to. It's okay." Jade assured her.
"I'm not a victim okay, that's just how Darleen is, and when we were together I liked it. I guess I made her think it was okay. I just have to talk to her, set the record straight."
"No, you're not talking to her. Not alone."
"Will you come with me then?" Skylar turned to Jade.
"Of course I will, I'll go anywhere with you." Jade engulfed her in a hug.
I couldn't help but scoff out loud. To my surprise, Mackenzie did too. We looked at each other and giggled.
"I see I found my ally in destroying Jade," I smirked.
"Guess so, but why destroy her when we can torture her?" Mackenzie giggled.
I raised an eyebrow and with that, she grabbed a remote off her bed and pointed it out the window and pressed on. Loud pop music suddenly burst out of the backyard speakers and literally made Jade jump like three feet in the air. Skylar yelped in surprise.
Mackenzie and I burst into laughter. Jade looked up and Mackenzie quickly pulled me away from the window. That only made me laugh harder. She was laughing so hard that she was crying.
"Mackenzie!" Jade called.
"She's coming!" I said through laughter.
Mackenzie quickly turned the music off and hid the remote under her mattress. I closed the window and we plopped on the bed and acted casual.
Jade busted into the room, still dripping wet from the pool.
"Asshole! Leave us a—" Jade abruptly stopped her sentence when she saw me.
"Hello, Jade." I waved.
"What the hell are you doing here!?" she hissed.
"Hanging out with my good friend Mackenzie James Wilson." I wrapped my arm around Mackenzie.
"Duh," Mackenzie added.
We both snickered.
Skylar poked her head in behind Jade and eyed us quizzically. We made eye contact and I felt my heart skip a beat.
"Anyways Jade, why are you rudely coming into my room? We have a guest you know." Mackenzie tried to act like she had no clue what this was about.
"Stop fucking with me." Jade spat at her.
"What are you even talking about?"
"I know you're messing with me! I know it, you devil's spawn!"
"What proof do you have?"
"Ugh!"
"Jade come on, let's just go to my house." Skylar tugged on her from behind.
"Yeah good idea, at least there we won't be spied on!"
"Geez get a grip Jade no one is spying on you," I said.
"You don't speak!"
"It's a free country."
"Ugh!" with that she stomped off with Skylar on her tail following her like a puppy dog.
Mackenzie got up and shut the door. We shared a look before laughing again.
"I'm Jade and I'm so dramatic, ugh!" Mackenzie flipped her hair.
I laughed even harder.
Just then we heard something slam against the wall. Followed by loud moaning. Our laughter was cut short.
"Oh fuck me, Skylar!" Jade moaned extra loudly.
"Jade..." Skylar complained.
"Please," Jade begged.
There was a moment of silence before Skylar let out a loud moan. I guess that's one way to get us back. It certainly worked, I felt like shit.
Mackenzie rolled her eyes.
"Hold on." She grabbed her phone and called her mom.
"Mom she's doing it again! Listen!" Mackenzie held the phone to the wall.
"Oh fuck me! Yes!" Jade moaned.
Mackenzie took the phone back.
"Hurry!" with that, she hung up.
"I called in back up." She said when I eyed her.
"Ah, so I am guessing this—" banging came from the wall "is a regular thing."
"Jade always tries to get Skylar to fuck her as a way to get back at me when I mess with her." Mackenzie sighed.
"Wow what a bitch. God that just makes me sick."
"Tell me about it."
Just then the sound of a loud air horn made us jump.
"Out!" I heard Jade's aunt call.
Both Mackenzie and I snickered.
"Really!?" Jade snapped at her.
"You know better, there are people here! Plus you should be doing homework not having sex!"
"Ugh! Everyone in this house is out to get me!" Jade pouted.
"Maybe you should get your own house then." With that, we heard Jade's aunt walk off.
"Maybe I will!" Jade shouted after her.
"Just for that you're grounded!" her aunt called back.
"Ugh!" Jade slammed the door to her room.
I peeked outside and I could see Skylar sulking over to her house.
"Assholes!" Jade banged on the wall.
"Slut!" Mackenzie shot back.
"You wait until she leaves!" Jade spat through the wall.
"And then what Jade?" Mackenzie taunted.
I was laughing at the arguing threw the wall.
"Just wait!"
"Oh, I'm so scared."
"Ugh!" Jade banged on the wall.
"Wow I think I needed this; this is really cheering me up." I chuckled before plopping on the bed.
"All in a day's work. Ruin Jade's life, check, let's see what else is on my agenda. Would you look at that, I'm free all day." She pretended to look at an invisible checklist.
I giggled.
"Wow would you look at that, so am I." I pointed out.
"Hmm, it seems like we have ourselves a dilemma here."
"Seems like it," I smirked.
"Maybe we could do something together?"
"Okay, I'm sort of hungry. Want to get lunch?"
"Sure." She smiled.
"Cool. Just uh, dress preppy."
"Why?" she eyed me.
"There is a fancy place I have been craving for a while but they are pretty stuck up there. If you dress preppy, you'll blend in more." I shrug.
"Okay, you can wait downstairs." She said.
So with that, I walked downstairs.
"Oh hello, Darleen I didn't know you were here. I was wondering whose fancy car that was."
"Yeah I was hanging out with Mackenzie, we are going to lunch."
"Oh?"
"Is that okay?"
"Sure, of course. Just as friends, right?" she eyed me.
"Just as friends, promise. I'm still not ready for another relationship. Not that Mackenzie isn't great, because she is! Not that I think that, or that I don't think that. I just meant that like I am not—"
"Darleen." She cut me off.
"Yeah?"
"Stop talking."
"Yes ma'am," I sighed.
She chuckled and patted my head on her way up the stairs.
While I was waiting I looked outside the window towards Skylar's house. I could see Skylar sitting at her window laughing. She was on the phone and looking across the street right to Jade's window.
I could almost read her lips. Jade! She pouts. Something about being mean. I watch her smile a big warm smile and my insides hurt. I have to look away.
"Ready?" Mackenzie came up behind me.
"Wow that was fast," I said.
"What can I say, I'm starving."
I eyed her outfit and nodded in approval, not bad. She'll fit right in.
"Perfect, let's go then." I smile at her.
We walk outside and I press a button on my keypad which makes the doors open and rise up into the air.
"Wow, fancy," Mackenzie says in awe.
"It's okay. Not the car I wanted but it's grown on me." I shrug.
"Oh look at me I'm Darleen, I'm rich."
"Hey!" I mock pout.
She giggles and gets in.
I smile and get in to. The doors shut by themselves.
Then with one last look at each other, we drive off towards the restaurant.
