After I was dressed, I stepped out of my room to find Ellen and my cousin Lucille in the hallway talking. The other two must have ran off to ask my uncle if they could have a pet. I headed towards them and yawned, which brought their attention to me. “Good morning Ellen. Can you lead me to the kitchen so I can get breakfast?” I asked which got a scrunched look from my cousin and a dirty remark. “You eat in the kitchens? With the servants?”
I looked at Lucille and sighed before speaking. “And if I do? It is nice to eat with Ellen and the rest of the staff at my house. They are good people. And Ellen’s little brother has come and eaten with me once or twice.”
Lucille must have thought I was weird for wanting to eat with the servants in the kitchen, but then again, I didn’t care what she thought. I looked at Ellen and asked again. “So, can I eat now?” Ellen smirked as she led me to the kitchen and brought me to the table the servants used. I managed to climb up by myself and smiled towards the staff, who looked like they had seen a ghost.
The head chef of the kitchen came over with an angry scowl on his face. “What is the meaning of this?” He asked Ellen while pointing at me. Ellen started to stammer as usually she never got yelled at. I quickly eyed the chef and spoke. “Hey, be nice to her. I asked her to bring me here so I could eat.”
The head chef looked like he was about to lose his top as he grew red in the face. “You are not allowed to eat in here.” He nearly yelled at me. It was at this time my mother came into the kitchen with a worried look on her face. She saw me and started to relax before she noticed the head chef about to backhand me out of anger. “Fredric!” My mother yelled as she started to walk towards the head chef.
“If you strike my child, I swear I will gouge out your eyes and feed them to you.” My mother nearly yelled. I had never seen her this mad before, and after this incident, I never really want to ever again. Fredric started to back away as my mother approached, and I almost felt sorry for him as he stumbled and landed on his ass.
My mother pointed at me while looking at Fredric and spoke. “Just like when I was a child eating in the kitchen when I could, my son will do so as well. Got it. And if you give him any trouble, I will become your problem. Got it old geezer?” My mother waited until Fredric nodded his head repeatedly before smiling and looking at me. “What do you want for breakfast, milord?” Fredric managed to utter without stuttering.
I managed to turn my head to Fredric and spoke. “Um, can I get two eggs and some bacon please?” Fredric stood and bowed his head stating he would have that coming up as soon as possible. I looked at my mother and her smiling face. Her demonic smiling face. “Um, mother, did you really have to scare him so bad?” I asked feeling somewhat sorry for Fredric.
“Alexander. He has been the head chef since I was your age. He used to yell at me and complain to my father about me eating and distracting the staff when I wanted to eat away from the rest of the people in the castle. Your grandfather ordered him to leave me alone, and only ask me to leave if we had a noble here for dinner. He has always been scared of me after I nearly beat him to death when I was about thirteen. Your grandfather had to order me to apologize for nearly killing him.” My mother laughed at her memory.
It was at that moment Fredric came back with a plate of eggs and bacon and sat it in front of me. “Here you go young lord.” He quickly managed to squeak the words out before running off like a scared cat. My mother must have left some mental scars on him for him to be that scared of her.
After breakfast, my mother and I went to up to the gardens. Moments after we arrived, Jethro jumped out of a bush with Valentina and another young girl chasing after him. He ran up to me and hid behind me and my mother. My cousin and the young girl came over nearly out of breath. My mother looked at me, and then to them. “Why were you chasing Jethro?” My mother asked and Valentina almost immediately yelled. “Sabrina and I wanted to pet him, but he wouldn’t hold still.”
I looked at the young girl named Sabrina and felt my heart skip a beat. Her skin was a shade darker than most people I had met on this world so far. Her eyes felt like they pierced the heavens themselves with their royal purple colors. My cheeks felt heated as I stared at her. My mother chuckled and spoke as she reached down to pet Jethro and bring him in front of herself to allow the girls to pet him. “Looks like my little boy has his first crush.” She giggled as I looked at her mortified.
Sabrina and Valentina moved in closer to pet Jethro who was starting to enjoy it and sniff their hands. He eventually got bored and started to wiggle himself free from my mother’s grasp. Jolting away back inside the castle. “Aw. The puppy left.” Valentina murmured before looking at my mother and opening her mouth. “Aunt Bethany, do you think I could get a puppy as well from you?” I didn’t notice the look she was giving my mother as I was still fixated on Sabrina.
She noticed me and walked over with her hand out. “Hello, I am Sabrina Stonefist.” She spoke with a soft, almost shy voice. “Who are you?” She asked me, to which I stammered as I tried to reply. “I... I am Alexander.” My cousin decided it was this moment to speak up. “That is my cousin Alex. He is weird and already can use magic like Lucille. I heard my father talking with someone a few weeks ago about it.”
My mother sighed as she looked at my cousin. “Be nice Valentina. Or no puppy.” My mother threatened her. She gulped as she started to run off crying. Sabrina looked at my cousin’s retreating form and yelled, “Hey wait for me Tina!” A moment later she took off running after my cousin. My mother used this moment to look at me and whisper to me. “Looks like my son has his first crush indeed.” She giggled at my expense, to which I looked at my mother with an expression of shear embarrassment. “Mother! It's not like that!” I yelled as I ran off.
