We set out to Emma’s house to get her brother. As I expected there are other people awake than us, nearly my entire town was awake, outside, and staring at the meteorite. I was determined, I knew I had to upper hand here. The first thing I sought out to do was gather Emma’s brother and some food.
“Why are we running?” Emma asked, she was tired and breathing heavily. I could tell she could not grasp our situation well.
“Emma, I don’t know why. But I feel like doing this is the right thing.” I said, I was not lying, I did not know why I was doing these things. I just had a feeling this was correct.
We made it to Emma’s house, the door sign reading Deianira. Emma entered immediately, I looked up for a second to see what was happening. It was my first time outside since this started. The sky was no longer dark as I thought it would be today, it was summer, I hadn’t noticed. The sky was a bright orange, or maybe red or yellow, a mixture. The clouds were also stationary and stars barely visible, I could see the moon and horizon. It was beautiful, but also scary. The meteorite is sitting in the middle of the beauty, while the day night cycle sat stationary. The neighborhood had not changed, still a suburban neighborhood surrounded by woods on one side and main road on the other. My road was not exciting at all, until this meteorite came.
I returned inside, Emma’s house did not change much. It would appear her parents repainted the walls. That was the only difference, besides the scared boy in the corner. That was Jasper, Emma’s brother.
“So, did you talk to Jasper?” I asked this immediately. I honestly felt strong, I watched a lot of zombie shows and I felt as if I was experienced. Emma seemed to have noticed and was staring at me oddly.
“Uhm, no...I don’t know what to say..” Emma said, she looked at me with eyes of curiosity and a hint of fear. “You look like you have lost it a bit, you do know this isn’t a movie right?”
I stayed silent, I guess this is what my brain did to me for coping. Though let me mention that I did not notice at first, so I continued like this. I hadn’t learned my lesson.
“A movie? No, this is real. All of it. Doesn’t mean I can’t have fun.” I responded, I didn’t believe my words at first. All the words I had said up till this point I did not fully believe, it was nothing more than empty sentences. “Emma, I told you. What we need to do is gather food and Jasper, these are the necessities. Just trust me on that, please."
