“No way!” Emma yelled,
“Em no-” I tried to stop her, to no avail.
Emma started running around looking at all the different pistols, handguns, and more.
“Beretta 92, Glock 18. Glock 19, AMT Hardballer, Raging Bull, Beretta M9, M1911, Brugger!, Thomet MP9!-” She was going off grabbing all the guns and looking for the appropriate ammo.
“EMMA STOP!” I said pulling her away from the guns, I had to stop her. “Jesus”
“Uh, yea, sorry?” She responded,
“Sorry? Look, let's just get like two or three and go.” I said, I wanted to leave soon.
“TWO OR THREE?” She immediately started yelling. I heard a rattle immediately which sounded quite close.
I jumped into action and pinned Emma to a wall, holding her mouth shut and being very close. I did not notice but when I did this our faces were about two inches apart. I was body close, constant contact. Her arms pinned against the sidewall as I slid us in a crevice.
“So, these are the guns.”
“Oh? They are all handguns!”
“Well, yeah. They are also all we have in this tiny little town you know.”
“Listen, do you know who I am?”
“Lt. Carnders. Sir..”
“Yes, I’m Lt. Carnders. See those guns? They don’t work for Lt. Carnders”
“Oh, k. Yes sir.”
“Heh, my adaption says there are others in this room. Find and kill them, they obviously heard us.”
After hearing this astonishing, for lack of better words, conversation I thought I had a name for Jasper now. I started to believe his future sight because it did not seem far fetched. I myself did hear them from many yards away while they were talking quietly.
“Fuck” was all I whispered and that Lt. turned my way. I quickly looked at Emma and said “Gun?” she handed it over and I continued with “Now the ammo u were hiding” She reluctantly handed it over.
I attempted to load the gun, but I was slow and he started getting really close. At some point I just threw them in, pointed the gun up and shot. I then yelled:
“Move back!” I yelled revealing myself. I pushed Emma farther into the corner and she followed the backroot out.
“Hello, young sir.” The big guy started talking. He was a very tall, maybe 6’4, caucasian male with an extremely fit body. He was bald and had a cross tattoo on his cheek, his cold blue eyes pierced me hard. “Hand over that gun, that’s not a toy it’s a deadly weapon. You can go to jail if you continue with it and hurt someone like that earlier shot.”
I could tell he was trying to convince me, but I did not want to give me what he wanted.
“I heard what you said, you want to kill me because I know.” I said firmly, I tried to stay firm and strong with my message.
“Okay kid” His expression changed from kind and gentle to aggressive, “Hand over all the guns here or I will take them.”
“Why should I?” I would still try and keep my composure under this immense stress his presence gives off. I have never felt something like it, just being here was hard.
“Because, when my group kicks off. I can give you an amazing rank within my walls.”
“Within your walls?” I responded
“Yes, I am Lt. Carnders. Military.” He stuck his hand out. I denied his hand shake and continued,
“Why do you need these guns?” I asked. I figured after about a month of the world being this way he could give me some of the answers I was craving.
“Well, it is believed that time will soon resume. Some people, including myself, have had what we decided to call “Adaptions-”
“What are Adaptions?” I interrupted him.
He was silent at first, slightly irritated I could tell. “Everyone’s adapting to this new situation, with some developing abilities.”
“Okay, so you need guns why?” I responded
“To fight off those with Adaptions”
“Didn’t you mention you had one though?”
“Perhaps” He says then smiles, “Allow me to demonstrate. Your friends outside, including the one who left are developing.”
“You knew? Why didn’t you stop us?” I responded.
“Yes, I knew. Mental adaption, my sensing is greatly increased. I can tell your adaption to, but I won’t spoil any surprises. Your friend out there with that mental adaption is special, pay attention to what he says. I heard you say you wanted two or three guns, take them and leave please. Make it easy.” He persists. I accepted this time. I took two glock 19’s and a Beretta 92
“Bye, don’t follow.” Was all I said before I left with the guns and a lot of ammo I had grabbed,
“I don’t need to Kristen.” he said as I had left the room. The door slammed before I asked how he knew my name. Thoroughly creeped out I continued out to jasper and the others. Emma completely excited over our winnings and Jasper worried about what I may have experienced.
“You good?” was all he said.
“Let’s go” Was all I replied.
