Valerie nods her head, since she is now ready. He then waves his hand, and all people move to the square for Ugan to make a speech.
“Today is the end of this war that has taken a lot from us. We have to thank Rin for that, for guiding us and giving us strength to endure this. But, none of this would be true if the honorable Men of the Guardians hadn’t send this blessed child, Valerie!”
The crowd starts screaming from joy and praising Valerie as the ‘blessed child’. That made her job harder though. She has to be the bad guy, take a child from their home. Being loved isn’t helping her right now.
Ugan looks her way and whispers to her, “I know you believe you are a bad person. I see you are punishing yourself for what you are about to do, but you have to realize, you saved hundreds of people from desperation and death. No matter what’s the price we have to pay, I believe the child that will come to you will be blessed just like you. For some reason, I believe it will be left in good hands”.
The old man’s words touched her deep in her soul. Her eyes are teary and she tries to hold back. She moves her figure towards the crowd now. She spots the child that she is about to reap.
Her posture is strong, so is her will. She notices how some people want to be chosen, some don’t care and some hide. She moves down from the upper level she was standing, down to the ground with them.
She slowly moves, splitting them like water. She stops and looks at her left. There she is, Nora looking back at her. Her eyes are cutting through the people, staring directly into her soul. The air becomes cold, like the moment she landed on the planet.
The people follow the imaginary line pointing straight to Nora. Now everyone is glancing at her, realizing she is the chosen one. Valerie moves her way, her gaze cold, standing tall in front of Nora.
“You are the one that God Eden has chosen, the child that will fight his War to keep Peace. You are his holy weapon and should be honored he chose you” recites Valerie all in one breath. Nora answers ‘yes’ trembling.
“Good. Tomorrow we leave in the morning. Say your goodbyes and I expect you at 9, in the place where I landed”.
And with that she moves out of the way immediately, without looking back of what she just created. She has an unexpressed face, eyes covered with death. She stops next to Ugan saying, “I'm sorry, I couldn't be the good guy you painted me to be” and with these last words she moves quickly away just before the weeping starts.
Valerie is standing in front of a huge door. People are whispering, but she isn’t making out what they are saying. She sees four tall figures but can’t make out their faces yet. She screams at them, stopping their conversation. The three men look at her while the fourth has lowered his head.
One of them comes closer and she realizes it’s Odel. He bends over and smiles at her. “Hey you little one. It will all be over soon. What you are about to do is gonna save the kingdom, such a brave girl!” he says to her. She isn’t sure of what he is talking though. “Hey!” the fourth man shouts at him, making him move back.
Then the man that the face she cannot see, comes up to her. “Take this Val. You are my legacy” and with that, he gives her the cobalt color brooch. The man leaves and it seems a hole is being created into her heart. “Wait!” she screams, but everything becomes blurry and nothing will bring him back.
Valerie wakes up abruptly. She takes deep breath, and a tear seems to be falling down her cheek. She stands up and sees the time is 8:oo am. She starts getting ready, putting back her now clean uniform, placing her brooch in the middle, and the insignia to the left. She wears her hair down and she is ready to move out.
She doesn’t eat breakfast, nor say goodbye, but moves to the place where she first landed. The sky is blue and there’s no sign of cloud. There’s just a wind that blows her long hair to the south. She closes her eyes and crosses two fingers. A small dot of light leaves her chest and travels fast out of the planet. That was a communication sent to the gatekeeper to open the portal when they are ready for them to travel.
It’s almost 9 and Nora appears, holding both of her parent’s hands. Behind them are all of the people of the town, ready to see her off. 'Great, we have an audience' she thinks in annoyance.
A bit of jealousy covered her heart briefly, as she remembered that she was alone when she was given to the Guardians.
She sees that Ugan is there, next to the family. He steps forward to talk to her. “Thank you again Valerie. I hope you succeed in whatever path you choose in life” and with that he moves back. For some reason she feels that his words had a secret meaning behind them. She knows that there’s only one path for a Guardian so she couldn’t make sense of what he said.
She nods her head and touches her insignia in a sign of respect. Nora hugs her parents one more time, almost crying. They are weepering, and wish her to be safe. The mother looks at Valerie with contempt. Nora is about to leave and her mother says one last thing, “You are my sun, my eri. Don’t forget that. Protect the Galaxy for us, okay?”. Nora gives a big smile, holding her tears back, nodding. At that moment, she moves next to Valerie.
“It’s time” she says and raises her hand. a beam of light crushes into the ground. She grabs her by the hand and they move inside the light. She holds Valerie tight and the lazer beams them out of the planet, far into the planet Cuarson, to the Guardians home.
