We were huge fans of Surf Ninjas growing up ("Moto Suuuurf!), and as kids we always loved the notion that Ernie Reyes Jr.'s character in the movie had his powers awaken and suddenly just knew how to fight (I mean talk about wish fulfillment!). When coming up with Alex and Baboy's powers, we saw an opportunity to pay homage to that character and ran with it.
When inside the world of the Palm Leaf Manuscript, Alex and Baboy's powers are based off aspects of their personality. Baboy is a naturally creative kid, so the manuscript grants him the power to create anything he can think of. Likewise, Alex is a protective older sister, so the manuscript endows her with the ability to protect her loved ones (even if she's not fully in control of her movements! haha).
While cleaning out their grandfather's basement, Alex and her little brother, Baboy, discover a mystical palm leaf manuscript that transports them to an ancient Philippine jungle. Here, our heroes are endowed with magical powers, mythical creatures roam free, and danger lurks behind every palm tree...
