Travis Barker lived in an apartment building a couple of streets away from the bakery. I was waiting there for Rascal and his men to arrive, when Travis walked out of the building and saw me standing.

'Hello Travis,' I said to him.

'Oh, hello detective.' He gave me a blank look.

'Drop the act, Travis.'

'I'm sorry, detective?'

'I know you killed Duncan Freight.'

'Wh-what?'

'You shot him as he rounded the corner onto Rowdy street. You were standing near the alley behind the bakery and you knew that the bakery smells would cover up the gunshot. Of course, if the trail ended at the alley I might still figure it out, so after shooting the gun, you walked to 57th street and back, making it look like the shot came from a vehicle.'

'I dont know wh--'

'It almost worked, except you forgot about the bullet casing. We found it at the alley exit and then we found the gun inside the bakery, hidden in a bag of flour.'

He swallowed and pearls of sweat were beginning to form on his forehead, the look in his eyes changing to desperation.

'You're not slow at all Travis, you're just pretending to avoid attention, while in fact I think you're pretty damn smart... just not smart enough. '

He stared mutely. I couldn't help feeling smug, I always did when telling someone they were busted.

'You were the only one who picked up the bag after the shot, tampering with the evidence. But what I would really like to know still is what exactly was in the bag that was worth killing for.'

'So,' I asked with my formal voice, 'Travis Barker... where is the cupcake?'

After which Travis produced a knife and stabbed me in the eye.
