Mirrored River

Rami

Rami

May 09, 2020

A solemn looking man walked up to Graf, Alig, and Hao who were sat on the beach.

"Hello" said Alig.

"I have some bad news." said the man.

"Things aren't great here either." said Alig. "Those two saw something whilst Grafunullif was curing his wounds."

"What happened to the King?" asked Graf.

"How did you know something happened to the King?" asked the messenger.

"Something happened to his control of the land whilst I was healing Hao." said Graf.

"Steady yourself, Alig. When the King's attendant told him about the man on the beach, he came running out of his chamber and yelled 'DON'T LET HIM INTO THE VILLAGE' at Rami, then he fell over and clenched at his heart and died. At least according to Rami, who's being held by the King's guards right now." said the messenger.

"The King died!? And they think Rami did it?!" Alig yelled as he stood up and got in the face of the messenger.

"Unfortunately, but his fishing spear was sticking out of the King's chest." said the messenger.

"That's impossible, Rami wouldn't kill someone, he's too lazy for that!" said Alig.

"It's strange though, why wouldn't the King want Hao in the village?" wondered Graf.

"I don't know. Hao, right? There's a beach hut not far from here, no one lives there. You should stay there for now, someone will bring you food and water." said the messenger.

Hao tried to say something, but before he could open his mouth Alig started shouting.

"Don't try to change the subject! There must have been a guard! There's no way Rami could have overpowered a guard to kill the King!"

"Look, Alig, I agree. There's no way that Rami did it, but the King's attendant says he killed the King. With the King gone, she's now in charge, the guards are only following their orders. I'm sure Rami will be fine. You should come back to the village to argue your point." said the messenger. He had a calm, but stern tone.

"Fine. let's go. Sorry Hao, but I've got to help my son." Alig said before he took off at a fast pace.

"Nice to meet you, Hao." Said the messenger.

"Nice to meet you too, what's your name?"

"Yoyoyon Ononon."

Hao tried really hard not to laugh. He was tensing his face muscles to suppress a giggle. He really didn't want to laugh at someone's name.

"So someone in your family was called something like Onon Ononon." he said through bated breaths.

"Yes, Onono Ononon. My grandfather, I'm sorry are you in pain?" said Yoyoyon.

"Uh, yeah this cut on my back really hurts." Said Hao. He was lying, he hadn't noticed the pain in his back since he saw the river.

"Well, I hope to see you up at the village eventually. See you later Hao, Grafunullif." said Yoyoyon as he took his leave. Once he was far away Hao started to giggle.

"Where on earth am I?" he asked the air.

"You're on Urenkilosucsos." said Graf. " You seem in high spirits for someone who was in tears twenty minutes ago."

"I think I need food and water, I feel out of it. Could I be delusional?"

"You could be. In the river, did you see that thing?" asked Graf.

"Yes. I did. For some reason I couldn't talk about it whilst Alig was here."

"Me neither. It felt like all my words were being decided by something else. As if I wasn't allowed to talk about it." said Graf.

"I want to try and describe it, but every time I find words for it it's form changes. As if my memories of it are opposite to how I want to describe it."

"What do you think the river was?" asked Graf.

"I don't know. I couldn't even tell what the river was flowing over. It just seemed like a river surrounded by nothingness. I can't wrap my head around it."

"I want to see it again." said Graf.

"I don't understand how you can say that. I hope I never see it ever again, one glance was more than enough. Was that guy's name really weird, or is that normal here on Urenkisosososos?" said Hao.

"It's Urenkilosucsos. And his name isn't that strange. A strange name here would be something like Hao. I think your full name would be Hao Haoheyth. That's a bit more normal, but it just sounds like its too short for a name to my ears."

"What does heyth mean?" asked Hao.

"It means that you have been kicked out of the village." said Graf.

"Shouldn't you have gone with Yoyon to figure out how the King died?" asked Hao.

"His name is Yoyoyon, not Yoyon. The King has his own doctor, if I were to step on his shoes I'd probably get kicked out of the village, too." said Graf.

"Then can you show me where the beach hut is? I want to get out of the sun."

"Sure, it doesn't look like you'll need the stretcher so I'll take you. There should be some water in a well behind the hut, you look like you could use it."

They set off in the opposite direction to the village.
