Emily patiently waited for 2 months to end and tried her best to have a meaningful summer like what Miss Williams told them to do. She already knew what she wanted in life in general, and that is to be a writer. She spent her summer vacation just as how she always do: reading books and trying to come up with her own idea of writing stories.
"Emy, Zoey is here. She says she came to pick you up to buy your school needs. Come on get fixed and hurry down. Don't make a guest wait, remember?"
Emily totally forgot that today was scheduled for buying school needs. She dressed quickly and went down.
"Let me guess, you forgot?" Zoey said to her.
"Well, sort of" she replied.
"I knew it."
"Come, let's just get out of here"
"Be back before 8, Emily!" shouted her Mom as they approached their front door.
"Will do, Mom!" Emily replied.
As they were walking in the mall to go to the school supplies store, Emily and Zoey saw Matthew and his friends from afar, looking like they are also doing shopping.
"Oh my gosh, Zoey! What do I do? I am not dressed in my best clothes!"
"Just be yourself and be cool. Everything will go smooth, 'kay?"
"Okay, okay, here they come."
"Hey ladies" said a tall guy with a ridiculous looking hair. "Hey Matthew, aren't these two in our class this year?"
"Correction. You two are in our class. We've been in that class for our whole high school life and you're the one joining us at last term." Zoey indignantly responded.
"Woah, okay. No need to be mad about it. Take a chill pill, lady."
"Come on, Jordan. Don't bother these two. Let's finish getting school stuff."
"Fine." and they walked past them.
As they turned their back on them, Emily still followed a gaze to them. Soon enough, Matthew looked back and mouthed the words "sorry" and apologetically smiled.
"Zoey! Zoey!! Did you see that? Matthew smiled at us again!"
"Whatever. His friend is arrogant enough to know I shouldn't be near them this term."
"Come on Zoey, don't be a killjoy!"
"If things turned out to be serious enough for you to have your heart broken, don't come crying to me. I hate that stuff."
"You're thinking way beyond the line, Zoey. Let's just get our stuff and go."
As school is starting tomorrow, Emily couldn't keep herself composed. She keeps on thinking of ways on how to be friends with Matthew without looking weird or annoying.
The next morning, Emily looked horrible as she didn't have enough sleep last night. She dressed for school and went down to have breakfast, and went out.
She saw Zoey at the gate and they both went to their classroom together. When they reached their room everyone is standing and not a single soul is on their desk.
"Hey, Lily. Why is that no one is sitting down?"
"Miss Williams said that she'll have our seats arranged. She needs us to focus on our studies more because senior year is just around the corner now."
"WHAT? We won't be seatmates anymore, Emy?"
"Let's just hope Miss Williams will let us still be seatmates."
"Okay class. Settle down, settle down. When I call your name, you will sit starting from right to left and so on. You will be arranged as two's, the usual. Okay, here it goes."
"Miss Robinson, Mister Thomas. You two, seat here."
"Miss Thompson, Miss Cooper. Here."
"Miss Gibbins, Miss Anderson. Here."
Emily and Zoey looked at each other out of joy, and high fived.
"Oh wait." Said Miss Williams.
"I forgot, we have two transferees from the advanced class. You two are so full of foolishness and as mischievous as one could be, you have to be separated. Miss Gibbins, sit with Mister Coleman. Miss Anderson, with Mister Smith."
Zoey looked at Emily, a face saying "seriously?!" and does no effort in hiding her annoyance while Emily couldn't believe her own ears. Did she hear it right? Is she going to be seatmates with Matthew, her all time high school crush? Emily seemed lost in the clouds as she went to her desk with Matthew already sitting beside, and sat down quietly. For the remaining hours proceeded, she cannot concentrate on what Miss Williams was saying. Her mind went nuts. As lunch break came, Emily was startled because someone grabbed her arm indignantly and went straight for the door.
"Zoey, hey! Calm down! Ouch, it hurts!"
"I AM SO FREAKING ANNOYED, EMY! I'M SO IRRITATED!"
"Obviously."
"Ugh! Where did Miss Williams get that idea from? Our grades are just fine! JUST FINE, I'M TELLING YOU!"
"Maybe she felt we have so much silly acts and ideas for this term that it needs to stop?"
"Whatever it is, I so hate her idea of being "serious with academics" stuff!"
"Calm down. I'll just get you an ice cream to cool you down. You'll get used to Jordan, I think he's...okay."
"Says the one sitting beside her crush."
Emily couldn't contain her joy and excitement anymore and let out a loud squeal.
"I think this term will be the best out of all I had, Zoey." Said Emily with a dreamy eyes.
