It was already getting late. Sam had to find a place to rest for the night. Windsor had a few inns that could accommodate travelling merchants. Sending his cart to the backyard, Sam went into the average looking one. It cost 20 copper for a night.
This inn was relatively large. There was an extra dining area where people could mingle with others. Looking around, he met with a group that looked like an adventuring party.
Sam was curious. He decided to approach them.
"Hi, I am a travelling merchant. Name is Sam."
The mercenaries looked at sam. After a few seconds, the one who looked like the leader said, "We are the Shadow hunters. Is there anything that you need help with?"
'These guys don't seem to be interested in chit chat.'
" I was wondering if you were going towards otto, I could use some help traversing through the jungle."
They kept thinking for a few seconds. "Depends, what's in it for us?"
Sam immediately knew they were on their way to otto. There was a jungle they had to break through to cross over to the next town. Having a few adventurers would help a lot.
"I can pay, how much are you looking for?". As a salesman, Sam was aware of how the world works. He knew they were holding back for higher pay. "I could always look in at the mercenary guild if you are not interested."
"We are not going to otto. But we could help you get to the next town. It's hunting season for beasts. So, we could help each other a bit if you help us sell our lots there."
As a Rank D merchant, Sam had a 20 per-cent discount on any purchase. 'These systems were awesome.' "And we get a 200 copper pay per day". Before Sam could accept he added. 40 copper a day was decent pay for adventurers.
" Ok, I will register a contract tomorrow morning at the guild office. " Saying so, Sam left them to order his dinner.
Sam was new to this world. Unlike others who were born and brought up, Sam had to learn everything necessary in a few days. What was most important was to figure out a plan.
Sam went back to his room after he placed the dinner order be provided at door. 'I will sell off my farming stocks here and then should by some hunting products from the market for cheap. Maybe some skin and fangs. They should sell for higher in the cities.
While Sam kept pondering as to what to buy, a maid knocked on his door with dinner. After emptying what looked like rice, Sam laid down to sleep. There was no noise inside. Either the night was quiet or the room was isolated with magic.
Sam fell into a dream. In his dream, he met Yama again. They were both sitting on a chair, facing each other. Yama was the first to speak.
"How Is it? Do you like the new place?"
"You said I wouldn't have to do anything. But clearly, I have to work every day for money."
"I was making a system for you. Either way, you should get to otto and look for my temple. Don't worry there will be no one there. I will implant the system to you. You are gonna like it."
Slowly, Sam's dream faded away. He went back to his peaceful sleep.
The next morning Sam woke up pretty excited. He was now certain that the trip to Otto will be rewarded. Sam had his breakfast in his room and left for the mercenary guild to register the contract. The leader of the Shadow hunter group was at the door waiting for him.
"Sorry for not giving you a name. I'm called Oven."
"Let's go. I still need to stock up a few items from the market."
"As long as you are paying." Oven left with Sam towards the mercenary guild.
After establishing the contract, Sam left for the market. There were a few shops opened but most focus on selling venison. Sam quickly found Fin's mother's shop.
She was also waiting for Sam. When Sam entered the shop, the lady greater him with enthusiasm. Sam went forward and offered his stuff. He wanted to sell it all, so he decided to give a 5% discount.
With 30 tools each costing 200 copper coins, the total came at 6 silver coins. To the lady, this was an even better deal. She readily accepted it. Farming tools moved too fast in villages.
Sam thanked the lady and proceeded to look for the local merchants. There were a few selling slices of meat, hide, and some local herbs. Since Sam had no way to preserve materials, all he could buy was animal hide.
With 200 animal hide worth 10 copper each, Sam's cart was almost full. He didn't plan to stop anywhere else anymore. He could just arrive at Otto and directly sell off these hide. Sam was more eager to get his system from Yama.
With a full cart, Sam arrived at the village gate where Oven was waiting for him. His group mostly held to themselves. They too had a smaller cart to collect monster drops. These were then given to the merchants at the next town they would visit.
The shadow hunters proceeded to the forest with Sam's cart behind. Their progress was slower as they hunted as much as they could and saved every drop. They had two tanners amongst them.
The group arrived at Rarewoods town in three days. Sam with the help of his Rank D license was able to get 6 silver for all the loot Oven's group obtained. This was besides the 600 copper Sam paid.
Oven liked Sam a bit. Most merchants would try to undercut and take a commission on sales. But Sam straight up gave them the money.
To sam, who wasn't in a mood to argue chose to make a good impression with this group. He was at first afraid that they might rob him. Once he discovered that the folks were good, he intended to hire them again next time he had a chance.
This was the only uncertain area between the Fermore city and the Otto city. What followed for Sam was a long journey. He wasn't interested in making measly profits from trading within these small villages. So, he decided to head straight to Otto as soon as possible.
