Groggily waking up I sit up and look at the time seeing that it is sometime past the afternoon, sleeping late again. This can’t keep happening whenever I have a mission. Sighing I slip out of bed and meander into the kitchen looking in the cupboards and fridge to scavenge something up to eat.
Now only finding out that I don’t have anything edible in my house which is frustrating because I’m starving and as if on que my tummy grumbles. Getting dressed I leave my house ready to find somewhere to eat. I walk down the main street searching for a small place that is still serving breakfast and luckily, I find somewhere relatively quick and a bonus not many people seem to come here. It looks like there going to close soon.
Walking in I glance at the menu deciding that having hot coffee and some pancakes sounds like the best breakfast I could have today. I watch the workers as they wonder around doing their work but looking happier than they did before I walked in, the cashier looked somewhat surprised that I was here, so I gave them a generous tip and make sure they keep it. I find a small, secluded table at the back and take out my phone and look at all the messages I have gotten, all from Mike. Telling me I should come back to the hotel to explain what happened to Darius and that he called the boss that the mission was a success. Discarding the messages, I find the news page to see if anything has come up with the dead bodies.
I leave the restaurant once I finish my breakfast and walk to a close supermarket where I can buy groceries to finally fill my empty fridge. Right as I enter the shops my phone instantly rings, looking at who it is I quickly answer.
“Congratulations for completing the mission, thought that it would have taken longer but all the better its done and you can report your findings to me this weekend, at the grand ball. The opening of a new art exhibit and most importantly don’t be late otherwise their will be consequences; Hope to see Mike there with you, oh as well as your new friend,” She states with slight amusement at the end.
“We are not friends and Mike will be there as always, and I will be on time as usual” I state not liking where this could go.
“Whatever you say,” she pauses as someone talks to her in the background, “I have already sent you your outfit for the ball so please do your best to look presentable and don’t dirty anything while wearing it; that’s everything I need to tell you for now I will see you this weekend.” She Hangs up before I can say anymore.
Putting my phone away I quickly walk around the shops finding everything I need and leave after paying and quickly stroll back to my house. The first thing I see when walking up the seps to the front door is a black box with a red ribbon sitting idly. Not surprised its already here since its only three days away, sadly it doesn’t give me much free range to do anything in the meantime. Awkwardly I pick the box up and open the door quickly dumping everything and put the box in my room to look at it later.
Returning back to the kitchen I put everything in the fridge and go to the lounge room sitting on the couch, turning on the tv I start watching a random movie series. Trying my best to keep my mind of off other pressing matters that I don’t what to think about at this time. Slowly I feel my body sink further into the couch as exhaustion washes over me, letting my eyes droop I lull into sleep.
Time Skip
Tossing and turning my sleep becomes restless as I wake up, I feel irritated and the need for a long run in my wolf form. My wolf urges me on by whimpering and scratching to get out. Both of us wanting to feel the wind in our fur and the soft ground of grass move underneath our feet. The forest seems to be calling for us beckoning us to explore it. Jumping up from the couch I run out of the back door through my yard effortlessly jumping over fences until I reach a tall wire fence. I jump onto the fence scaling it to the top than jump landing softly onto my feet into a running stance to take of across the field into the tree line. Upon entering the forest, I shift and feel my body lighten and more agile as I take of faster.
Birds flurry into the safety of the treetops as other animals scurry out of my path into hiding spots among the brush. Only the sound of small leaves can be heard as I push myself further from the restraints of life and all the responsibilities. Howling I slow down until I reach a thin river that’s swealed with fresh water, lapping it up it instantly cools my burning body down until its but a softly glowing ember. Laying down a couple centimetres away I watch as fish slither past leaving thin ribbons behind them. They dart rapidly up stream past the bubbling rapids to their birthplace for the summer.
Night creeps over clouding the trees in darkness as everything quietens to the rhythm of crickets and other nocturnal animals relishing in the night. I find a small spot to sleep and scan the area to make sure I’m alone and nothings going to attack me from the dark. Laying down I rest my head on my paws and listen to the sounds as they whisp me away into a peaceful sleep.
Light caresses my eyelids as it filters through boundless of foliage. Stretching out ii stand up shaking out my coat getting dirt and leaves off. My stomach bubbled in protest of food even though I didn’t feel quite hungry yet. Following my stomachs orders I stroll back into town finding a safe spot to shift, walking back to the same restaurant but this time ordering bacon and eggs happily waiting the short time for it.
It arrived steaming hot and smells delicious making my mouth to water. Quickly digging in I finish it in record time surprising myself that it didn’t take longer. Not waiting any longer, I leave saying a quick bye to the workers. I walk back to my house and straight to my room deciding now would be a good time to confront the box.
Undoing the ribbon, I open the box and am faced with a black mask that covers the top half of my face with the shape of a wolf, its elegantly designed with a small pattern that looks like swirls of black smoke. I put the mask aside and pull out a pair of ankle high boots that have the texture of soft black velvet with a small black zipper on the side. They have a small heel that would make me a few inches taller, as well as a small leather belt that wraps around the ankle of the boot. Putting them on the floor I pull out the last thing, the dress. It flows around with a small shine from the silk satin fabric, the top is pure white with it spreading down to long sleeves. From the torso it slowly fades into pitch black down to a flowing end at the ankles. It feels like the smoothest material I have ever felt, as I move it, I see that there’s a small slit up one of the legs that reaches up to the calf. Delicately I place it on my bed to put away while I get ready.
Heading to the shower I lock the door and quickly strip, turning the water on I wait half a minute waiting for the right temperature and step into the refreshing warm water. Once I’m clean enough and done my hair I step out looking at the time to see I have enough time to arrive at the ball on time.
