Drawbacks to a human mate i guess.

We both had stuff to do today anyways, my dad had instructed me to come home straight after work to train with some new guy.

One of the other guys from the pack gave me a lift home since i didn't have a car just yet.

The drive home was uneventful, me and the other guy exchanging small talk, him always being constantly respectful due to my being the alpha's second son and the future beta of the pack.

The drive passed quickly though at least and soon the familiar building came into view.

I clambered out of the car and climbed the stairs, taking a moment before pushing the door open.

A familiar scent enveloped me but there was a different scent there, yet still familiar.

"Dad i'm home." I called.

I looked around and noticed him sat next to the fireplace talking to someone, that person turned to me and it hit me.

Why was he here, he wasn't a wolf as far as i was aware, lots of thoughts swirled in my head.

"Alex, this is my son Riley, he'll be your training partner." my dad said.

Alex just stared at me.

"you guys okay?" my dad asked with concern in his voice.

I nodded dumbly, "Me and Alex already know each other."

My dad laughed, "Good that'll make things easier, but you're both acting weird, whats wrong with you both?"

I gulped and said, "Do you mind if we take a rain check today, i need to speak to Alex about a lot of things."

My dad sighed a little before nodding, "there's something going on between you two, i want you both to figure out what it is before we start training tomorrow, Alex i'd like to invite you to stay for dinner if you would like."

Alex nodded, looking at me.

My dad stood up and walked away, leaving the two of us alone.

I rubbed the back of my neck and worked up some courage, "C'mon lets go for a walk."

Alex nodded and we pulled on jackets and things before stepping out of the house, we walked slowly our brains working overtime.

My mate bond was begging me to touch Alex, to hold him and ease the tension radiating from him.

We stopped in a clearing next to my house with a couple of benches.

"So, you're a wolf too?" I asked, almost scared to hear the answer.

Alex nodded, "I only found out a few days ago, my mom's one too, she's been teaching me what she can but your dad's agreed to teach me because of my Alpha and Omega mixed blood."

I was a bit shocked when he told me about his Alpha  blood, how could i not smell it? i wondered, before i caught a whiff of the lingering smell of wolfsbane.

"Ah the wolfsbane treatment to get used to your enhanced senses, i wondered what was with the pouch you were carrying round your neck." i said.

Alex seemed to be relaxing a little now, and i decided to broach the subject that was hurting me the most.

"If you're a wolf, do you already know about the whole mates thing?" i asked shyly.

A quick blush spread across Alex's face, "I know about it, Goliath my wolf told me we were supposed to be mates, but i'm a little overwhelmed by everything right now." Alex admitted, "But i'm not rejecting you, i actually really like you, but i'd like to take it slow, i'm still new to all this." he quickly added, his face flashing a vibrant crimson.

Alex's words immediately brought me joy and i laughed aloud at his embarassment, earning a little grumble fom him.

His pout was adorable, "Sure we can take it slow if you like, i really like you too." i stumbled a little over the last words, feeling a blush spread over my cheeks.

Alex's face lit up when i said that thoough and his vibrant blue eyes sparkled in joy, my eyes noticing small freckles sparsely populated his cheeks.

Just looking at his happy face made my wolf immediately happier, before i realised what i had to say next.

"I'm sorry about this Alex but i've got to tell my dad about us being mates, pack rules" I explained, hoping i wasn't making him too upset.

Alex flushed a little at the prospect of the embarrassing conversation we were going to have with my dad, but nodded.

"Rules are rules." he said, "I only hope your dad doesn't object."

His words made me happier than he could know, just knowing that he wasn't going to run away and that he would stay by my side was more than enough for me.

I couldn't help but pull him into a hug, which he hesitated for a moment, unused to the physical contact between us, but then he reciprocated my hug.

We stayed there for a moment before we stood up and made our way back to the house.

My dad was in his office, doing the packs finances when we knocked on the door.

"Enter" his voice boomed and i pushed open the door.
