"So you think this is contagious?"
Avi wasn't sure what she thought. This morning she'd foolishly thought she might be able to simply walk into work and pretend everything was normal. She certainly hadn't thought she'd find her boss having become a pine marten.
"I think so," Avi replied, carefully picking her way through a sentence. "You changed while talking to me on the phone, right? I had something similar happen to a friend last night."
"Do you know what's causing it?"
Avi shook her head. "I'm still trying to figure that out."
Her boss nodded, thinking carefully. "Take these," he finally said, handing her a set of orders. "Go to your area and try to stay away from people. Don't talk to anyone except me."
Avi nodded and scurried off. She'd already had a habit of keeping out of everyone's way, so her boss' orders would be pretty easy to follow. And it was definitely better than being sent back home.
