Black Friday used to be just that. A day with great deals on the things we thought made us and our kids happy. But now it is something else, and make no mistake: Thanksgiving and Christmas have become one single holiday that only resembles a month long shopping spree. Retailers have begun opening on Thanksgiving Day. Unacceptable and inexcusable. All we are doing is making rich people richer while robbing store employees of another holiday with their families. It’s disguised as “an opportunity for the employees to make some extra money”. Bollocks. Those employees don’t have a choice do they? And in a time when jobs are hard to come by, risking the one you have to stay home with your family is not a risk most are willing to take. So they concede.
You have to know that there’s no going back – it’s only down hill from here. And it’s our collective fault. So congratulations, we’ve managed to begin the final phase of effectively eliminating the last bastion of a “giving” holiday with Biblical efficiency. Now I get to sit back and listen to that most hypocritical holiday quip of “reason for the season”. How and why people go into Megatron mode to buy stuff does not concern me. Thieving away an entrenched holiday by opening on Thanksgiving because you want to get ahead in sales is deplorable.
***** You'll notice a gap between #3 and #12 - this is because my mini Batman web comic 'The Real Killing Joke' ran from #4 to #11. That series can also be found here on Tapastic *****
