The turmoil in the castle grew faster, louder, more nervous with its steps. But Augustin showed no signs of stress nor fear. It was his chance to shine, his chance to prove himself, to show who he is. With an adrenaline rush, he made his way out of his room and towards the courtyard, leaving Edgar to the soldiers. He hoped deep down in his heart, that his Edgar would not have to fight in any War. But with Nefarious rules, this wish was rather hard to come true. Because when a War broke out, the entire people of the castle were called together to recruit knights and soldiers. Thus, there was a lay Army and the precious crown Army. King Konstantin began to use this system after the failure to win over the Oak trees. For the fact that many highly professional knights died, leaving nothing but corpses and hungry families that were extremely important to the kingdom. The Plan of prevention was invented, making every strong, willing man go to War, what would conclude that Edgar had to follow as well. Not wanting to think more about it, Augustin went on.
Now standing in his stunning leather and metal worked Armor, Augustin could feel the adrenalin pumping again. A proud glow made his face light up the greyish day. He was finally able to prove that he was the true King of Nefarious. After all he already had one advantage – Valentin was nowhere to be found. Although his older brother loved to go to War, to prove his strength and women from all over the world loved him.
That the crown Prince disappeared in the first War of his own Kingdom since his birth. Almost as if he had cold feet. Augustin had to think that his brother chicked out after talking too much and let a little smile slide.
On the other side of the castle, Edgar was not put in the next best Armor as expected, although he is a trained fighter, just like Augustin, and quite ambitious at times. No, he was brought into the great hall with King Konstantin and numerous advisors. The second all the important people were seated at the rich laid table, the soldiers closed the massive wooden doors with the seductive decorations.
A cough run through the cold and quiet hall. All pairs of eyes are directed to the source of the sound which quickly turned out to be the King. He rose and began to speak.
“My advisor, I’m sure you’re wondering why we’re all here.” A unanimous murmur went through the hall and the King nodded.
“Not so long ago we made peace with Ephemeral through our beloved Oak trees, but now they are on fire, as well as are our hearts of peace. ” The less quiet hall gained in volume, and one could feel the hatred and anger of the individual. The room got more heated as the atmosphere got colder and Edgar noticed for the first time in what kind of situation he was in. With a sudden headache, he leaned back and let the last few days go by again.
Just a few hours ago, he was filled with anger and anxiety about losing Augustin as well as his heart, then the letter about Daphne’s poor condition, his journey back to Nefarious, the first reunion with Augustin, the little Philomena and the sudden death of Daphne and finally Augustine’s lips around him. The last thought brought a red glow over his full cheeks.
Everything went by way too fast and smooth for his taste, and it seemed as if he was sitting in a well-planned event, fitting like a fist to the eye. Edgar got the sick making feeling that something was wrong with Nefarious, that something was behind all this. But now was not the time to think about, but to act.
