Sometimes, dealing with your stuff leads to neglecting your friends and that can be hurtful to them. If *possible* you can try to communicate to them, like, "I value our friendship but I have a lot going on right now and I'm afraid I can't be as present with you as I'd like" so they aren't entirely confused by your disappearance. If not, maybe address that when you are on the other side. Like "I'm sorry I haven't been around/as communicative as usual; I have been dealing with some stuff. I want you to know how much I value our friendship though." ON THE OTHER HAND if you start feeling ignored or neglected by a friend, you can always reach out and just ask, like, "I haven't talked to you much lately, is everything going okay?" Or whatever.
