Zeta Faleur
Age: 16
Cani signs (physical): Fangs, cat-like tail
Cani powers: Weather control
Friends: Oka, Kalei, Lillia, Aira, Laenie, Iris, Maia
Interests: Tower of Hate and Love (TV show), Raina Starlight (actor and author of ‘fantastamoir’ series of books describing heightened tales of a somewhat fictionalized past), reading, TV in general
Romantic interests: Oka, Jeans (formerly)
Rivals/enemies: Jeans, Ovie, Kitty Kilander, Order of Terina
Family: Stella Faleur (older sister, guardian), other family unknown. While they sometimes fight, Zeta is fiercely loyal to her older sister and sole guardian, Stella, and frequently gets homesick when they’re apart. Zeta doesn’t know about the rest of her family and according to Stella it’s a sore subject, so she doesn’t pry.
Bio: At the start of the series, Zeta is still recovering from escaping her ex, Jeans. They dated for around two years, but it was soon apparent that it was an emotionally abusive relationship where Jeans did everything she could to keep Zeta scared and in her control. Jeans claimed to be building a “harmony” in the void, and wanted Zeta to be there for it. On their last night together, Jeans left a slight scar on Zeta’s hand from her bloodsaber before Zeta finally left her.
Shortly after that, Zeta’s fangs came in, and she went to Rising Shards Cani Academy.
There she quickly made friends with Oka and Kalei, as well as other friends in Aira, Laenie, Lillia, and more, and a rival in Ovie Chirhart. While learning to deal with their Cani powers (with lots of fighting monsters in the void, learning to use their bloodsabers), the group broke an art project, played Kalei’s favorite sport beam chasers, looked at their memory trials, helped Laenie get flowers, grew a tail, went to the mall for a midnight launch of a game console, picked a club (where she befriended Iris, Maia, Amara, KJ, Rain, and more), got Feral Flu (basically turned into a cat werewolf and got stuck in her room with Oka all night), helped Kalei deal with her mean jokes, and a lot more but that’s’ the gist of it. And also a time where Zeta accidentally walked out naked in front of Oka.
While all that was going on, Zeta and Oka got a lot closer, finding solace in their complicated pasts and family situations, bonding over shared interests, and just finding each other emotionally compatible. Zeta quickly realized she had a crush on Oka, and after some time learning to let go of her past with Jeans (including a fight with Ovie, who revealed that Jeans was cheating on Ovie with Zeta the entire time Zeta thought they’d been dating), Zeta asked Oka out on the beach next to the school at night after they saw a movie together. Oka said yes, and the two have been dating ever since.
Shortly after the two started dating, the class went on a trip into the void for the holiday Fang Moon Web. There they were raided by a group of Wildfire Hearts students, led by Oka’s aunt Kitty Kilander and Zeta’s ex Jeans and dropped off on a mysterious island called Vita Coa, mostly populated with half-robotic half-organic beings. While there, Zeta fought a brute and rescued a Cani boy named Arctus Kathron, who she had briefly met at school (assuming these two were one in the same…). Arctus claimed that he went to Falling Shards because he was searching for her (for non-romantic reasons that he did not clarify but promised he would soon), and entrusted the use of the Kathron sword to Zeta. After a long journey across Vita Coa, Zeta came face to face with Jeans again and her creation, the Starlight Despair, a mask that could be filled with dark void energy pulled from the mental pain of the other students she’d captured. With Oka and Kalei by her side (and a last minute save by Ovie), Zeta defeated Jeans and destroyed the mask, returning home.
Bonus: In stable times after the Starlight Despair incident and Oka’s confession that she has a hard time taking the lead in their relationship, Zeta has been imagining maybe too much about things she could do to take said lead.
Oka Ohri
Age: 16
Cani signs (physical): Fangs
Cani powers: Plant life control
Friends: Zeta, Lillia, Kalei, Aira, Laenie, other theater club and choir members
Interests: Theater, musicals, reading, singing, learning about new shows and movies she had never seen before
Romantic interests: Zeta
Rivals/enemies: Jeans, Kitty Kilander, Order of Terina
Family: Berin Kilander (adoptive parent), Caya Kilander, Penteldtam Kilander, 09, Reit Kilander, Kitty Kilander, Aki Kilander, various other Kilanders. Biological family unknown. Oka has mixed feelings about the Kilanders, the rich family that adopted her. While she likes Berin, her adoptive father, she feels conflicted about going from near squalor to a rich family, and definitely doesn’t like the Kilander reality show.
Bio: Oka was a rare case of a fangs-only Cani that showed their signs near birth. She was given up for adoption and sent to the orphanage/boarding school Tesata, a harsh island facility on a lake near the big city Litus Empirica. There Oka was pushed to her limit by her main teacher, Mikkel, in a rough upbringing. At one point, Oka lashed out at a fellow student, using a vine whip so strong it burned her and the other student. Oka wears a wrist cloth to remember she is capable of that kind of harm to others. At some point, Berin Kilander adopted her, and her new Cani doctor, Dr. Diast, assisted her with the transition from Tesata to her new home.
At Rising Shards, Oka has a chipper, happy demeanor, relishing in being at a school that isn’t cruel like her old one. Oka joins theater and choir, forming a close friendship with Lillia Cadence in theater, who share venting time about their crushes. Oka formed a crush on Zeta around the same time Zeta fell for her, but her mix of personal anxiousness about never having a girlfriend before and not wanting to rush Zeta after Jeans made her wary to act on those feelings. She did however, with Lillia’s help, compose a business-like letter pitching a potential relationship to Zeta 3-5 years down the line.
In the Starlight Despair incident, when all of the students besides her were in nightmare pods to drain them to power the mask, she had to be in Elka, the dark substance fueling villainous powers in the void. While all of the students will have to watch out for negative feelings increased afterwards, Oka can tell that her anxiousness and panic has begun to spike a great deal, something she doesn’t want to burden others with worrying about.
Bonus: Oka is very self-conscious about her singing, despite being excellent at it.
Another Bonus: In stable times after the Starlight Despair incident, Oka has also been imagining maybe too much about things Zeta could do while taking the lead.
