Mr. Smith smiled.
“How are you?” He asked.
“I’m doing well, thank you,” Ms. John said with a smile on her face. “How are you, I heard you’ve recently married?” Ms. John asked.
“I’m doing well. I’m saddened to be without Clara, of course, but we will be going on a honeymoon soon,” Mr. Smith said, his face unchanging from it’s stern expression.
“Of course, where do you plan to go?” Ms. John asked.
“We were planning to go to France, I recently purchased a lovely little villa by the sea and Clara has always wanted to visit the ocean,” Mr. Smith said, the corners of his mouth turning up in a tiny smile.
“Ah, that sounds lovely,” Ms. John said, smiling back. “I hear the ocean’s lovely this time of year.”
“The weather is lovely this time of year, isn’t it,” Mr. Smith said. “I’ve missed you Emily. I’m so sorry Emily. Me and your husband miss you dearly.”
“I’m still here father? Why are you saying you miss me?” Ms. John asked, desperately trying to get her father to notice her.
“I love you dear. I’m sorry I won’t be able to visit for a few months, I hope you won’t mind.”
“Father, why are you leaving me?! Don’t leave me!” Emily said, her movements growing more frantic.
“I will see you soon my dear,” Mr. Smith said.
The door closed behind him, and Ms. John was plunged back into darkness.
“I miss you already father,” Ms. John said slumping over again. “Please return soon…”
