This was a challenge set by one of my undergraduate professors back in 2017. The goal was to create a short story in no more than 117 words. I'm not sure about my word count, but this was the first ever flash fiction I made. ^^,

“You’re on the wrong side,” the janitor droned. “It’s over there. This is a terminal station.”

“I know. I’m just meeting my girlfriend here.”

“Oh?” He swished the mop.

I smiled and told him a few things about Lalyn. How we’d meet here in the afternoons. How we’d go home together...

How yesterday she was hit by a runaway van.

“Wait… so she’s in the hospital?”

I blinked. “ ‘Take a leap of faith,’ she’d always say. Miracles do happen.”

I averted my gaze from the confused man and saw pinpoint lights hurrying through the gathering darkness.

I was ready to take my leap of faith.
