“There’s a restaurant that sells hairy crabs near the house,” Cedric said, as we pulled away from my parents’ place.
“Steamed?”
Hairy crabs have been one of my favorite dishes since I was a child. He was really doing a good job remembering all my cravings!
“Yes. Exactly your taste. And they have hotpots too.”
After a much quicker drive, with the traffic almost gone at this time of night, we were tucking in at a delicious spot I’d never been to before.
“It’s nice to see you’re not scared that you’ll gain weight from eating so much in the middle of the night.” Cedric commented, peeling the shrimps for me.
The smell of the chicken broth that was used on the potluck made my stomach grumble. “I’m trying to gain weight actually.” The fact that I had been willing to change myself for the man that I loved was a little embarrassing.
He responded with a grin before giving me another shrimp. “Good. Eat.”
I almost never ate shrimp because I was too lazy to peel them. The fact that he remembered how much I love them, and how much I hated peeling them, was just another revelation about how much he’d paid attention to me over the years.
After eating, we decided to walk for a few minutes before going back home.
“What are you going to do about your job?”
“I’ll submit my resignation tomorrow.”
“What about Evan?”
“What about him?”
“He values you as an employee.”
More like as a puppet.
“I can’t work with him anymore,” I said.
“Are you sure this isn’t just you being impulsive?”
I rolled my eyes in response. “Nope. Besides how am I going to save Silk and Laces if I don’t come work for Silk and Laces?”
“The salary isn’t comparable to what Evan pays you.”
So direct.
“Doesn’t matter. I’m your wife so I’ll be helping myself to your salary too.”
Instead of laughing, Cedric looked thoughtful. “You’re right. I’ll add you onto my account tomorrow.”
“What?! I was joking!” I watched as he smiled, his eyes turning into two beautiful crescents.
“I wasn’t joking though. I should warn you though, sadly, for you, I am not as rich as my brother.”
Yet I thought devilishly.
“I’m always willing to offer body as compensation for my lack of money though.”
It was my turn to be shocked and his to break down into laughter. My face flushed just as I turned my head away. “Then I’ll take the bank access instead,” I said as calmly as possible. How come I wasn’t aware that he had a shameless side?
We got home shortly afterward, and now that my hunger had been taken care of, I was seeking a nice hot shower to wash off the craziness of the day.
“I want to take a shower first. I hope you don’t mind.” I said the moment we got inside the house.
“All right.”
I thanked him and immediately went to my room. After a divine shower that was way too hot and far too long (I wasn’t on his bank account and responsible for the water bill yet!), I left my toiletries and cosmetics fridge inside his bathroom and went back to my room. It was already close to one. I needed to sleep.
It had been an exhausting day. From the reincarnation, one-night stand, hearing the truth from Evan, getting married and my parents’ revelation. I felt like I had lived multiple lifetimes, and I guess I had!
And I realized that apparently, in all lifetimes, I forget to put on my ice face mask before sleeping.
Gah. I knew I had to get up and do it.
But what if Cedric was already inside the bathroom? For a few seconds, I hesitated.
When I left the bathroom earlier, Cedric wasn’t in his bedroom. Maybe he was still in his study. With that in mind, I slowly went back to the bathroom. The silence only made me more confident.
But as I walked inside the bathroom, I saw the bathtub wasn’t empty. “Sorry! I didn’t know you were here.” My eyes widened. Of course, I didn’t take my gaze off him.
All muscles.
My eyes were glued to his exposed stomach. Ok, so technically I had already slept with him, but in my mind, it was 5 years ago, and it had been completely dark in the room. This was the first time I was actually seeing him.
I didn’t know Cedric had this kind of body. I knew he liked to work out, but when dressed he looked lean more than bulky, so I assumed he just did it just to stay healthy, not to build this Greek statue-type perfection.
“See something you like?” He looked like he was trying not to laugh.
“Ah?” His words woke me up from my stupor. Almost immediately, heat crawled up my neck. “I was trying to get to the fridge.”
“This isn’t the kitchen.” He was smirking at me.
“I know!” I turned my back on him. “I’m talking about my cosmetics mini-fridge. I need to get some ice.”
“Oh, you think it’s too hot?”
Hot? What is hot? “I mean my ice mask,” I said as I marched out of the bathroom.
“Hey! What about your ice mask?” I heard him laugh just as I closed the door that adjoined my room to his.
