'Be-beep', 'Be-beep'.
Yukion quickly slams his hand down on the phone alarm, knocking it to the floor. Groaning, he reaches his hand down and clumsily searches for his phone. Quickly shutting it off before his housemates heard it. He did not want to deal with his sister's tired rage or his best friend's eagerness. It was too much this early in the morning. He sat up in bed, rubbing his eyes, slowly waking up. He mentally prepared himself for the freezing journey that lay before him.
Yukion walked out his front door and closed it quietly in an attempt to keep his housemates asleep for longer. He was just going to take a short run and come back. He didn’t want them fussing over him before he left. They shouldn't wake up before he gets back but he prepared a note just in case. Yukion pulled his phone out of his pocket. It was currently 5:42. He had roughly 40 minutes before one of his housemates woke up.
Yukion walked into the supermarket. They had run out of milk the previous day and it had yet to be refilled. He also wanted to see his friend but knew he wasn't on. He quickly grabbed the milk and headed towards the checkouts. He quickly scanned to see if he knew anyone who was on. And to his surprise, he did. Yukion smiled and quickly walked over to his friend.
"Didn't know you were on." Pebble looked up from the cash register. He had large bags under his eyes.
"Wasn't spose to be." He quickly rang up Yukion's items.
"Oh?" Yukion responded.
"Yeah, Luka couldn't make it and called in." Yukion could tell that Pebble was upset. His friend wasn’t one to gossip.
"I know he has a kid but come on, couldn’t his partner deal with it." Pebble sighed.
"Sorry for that. Your total is $12.50." Yukion paid and picked up his items. Pebble was obviously in a bad mood and Yukion didn't have the energy to handle that bomb yet. He thanked Pebble and went on his way. 'Poor Daigo' he thought as he made his way home.
Yukion walked into his home and was immediately greeted with the sweet smell of pancakes. He walked into the kitchen and there was his sister, Yuri, scurrying around the kitchen.
"Hey! Yuki, have you seen the..." She trails off as she searches the fridge. Yukion then places the milk on the counter and walks away with his bag of snacks in his hands.
"Thanks!" Yuri shouts out as he heads into his room. He places his snacks in one of the drawers in his desk and grabs a few towels from a cupboard in his room. Heading out of his room and towards the shared bathroom, he meets his other housemate. Daigo.
"Hey Yu," He sleepily smiled. "Where'd you go?" Yukion just shrugged,
"Had no milk." he responded and walked into the bathroom. Before shutting the door, he mentioned, "Pebble's working". He closed the door and heard a flurry of footsteps take off. Yukion smiled and proceeded with his shower.
After being dressed in clean clothes he wandered into the kitchen. He grabbed a clean plate and prepared himself breakfast. He hurriedly began to eat before his sister began her tirade. He winced as she sat down next to him, and waited anxiously for her to say something.
"Thanks." She said, taking a bite of her pancake. Yukion looked at her surprised. Where was the anger at him leaving? The tears of betrayal at not being told?
"For?" He asked nervously, expecting an explosion of emotion.
"Getting the milk." She responded quietly. Yukion sat confused. Where had his overprotective and anxious sibling gone? Where was the sister that had worried about him walking to school just in case it rained in the middle of summer and he had no umbrella or coat to keep him dry?
"You feeling okay" He asked, genuinely worried for his sister.
"Yeah," she responded, "Just..." she paused.
"Just not used to you being all grown up, is all."
"It felt like only yesterday, when you went to your first day of school, and now..." Yuri paused again.
"Now you've graduated," She smiled slightly.
"And you've got a job." She turned to look at her younger brother.
"I'm proud," She said.
"But don't think that means I won't be worrying about you going out all on your own!" She cried out hugging him tightly. Yukion smiled. His sister was back to normal.
Yukion continued the rest of his day like normal. Eating, playing games, drawing, reading and just generally lazing around. Daigo had returned from his day out with his boyfriend a few minutes ago and now the two boys, Yukion and Daigo, were playing a co-op game in the lounge.
"Head to the left" Daigo shouted
"TO THE LEFT YUKION!"
"NO, NOT YOUR LEFT, MY LEFT!" Daigo shouted as the death scene played on the screen.
"Your upside down." Yukion whispered back.
"Well, you should have..."
"SHUT UP!" Daigo never got to finish his sentence.
"Other people are trying to be normal and get some sleep." Yuri yelled. The boys quickly turned off the console and apologized before heading to bed.
"Hey, Yu," Daigo whispered as they walked down the short hallway. "There's gonna be a band playing at the retirement village on Tuesday if you wanted to come"
Yukion turned towards his friend "A band?"
Daigo excitedly responded "Yeah, they seem cool" Yukion nodded.
"Sure"
"Wait, Really?" Daigo exclaimed.
"Yeah" Yukion responded smiling back at his friend.
"You never come! This is going to be great!" Yukion quickly entered his room and shut the door to mute his friend’s current excitement. Yukion sighed and flopped down on his bed. What was going on today. First Pebble gossiping, then his sister was acting strange, now he was. The only person who had acted normal was Daigo. Was this a sign? Was it the start of something strange? Only the future would tell.
