Luka held the form in his hand. Last shift he had been talking with Peter. Peter had mentioned feeling watched when he went home the night before. Luckily he had been picked up by Daigo and Yukion so he wasn't alone. Luka couldn't shake the feeling that Peter was being followed due to his involvement with him. So he decided that today he would try to help Peter. He would disassociate with Peter to keep him safe. After all, Peter had been so sure that Yukion would help him but Luka hadn't seen any change happen. Luka hadn't even heard or seen the guy since the kitchen incident. He assumed that Yukion wasn't gonna help him and that Peter was just being hopeful.
He flattened out the slightly crumpled paper and sighed sadly. He had liked working here. It had been the place where he made friends. It had been the place that had comforted him throughout his entire life. He had found a second family with his workmates. They had supported him through the tough time of being a young parent. Luka smiled sadly. He was gonna miss working here.
After successfully handing in his resignation form, without any conversations from the staff, he left the building and went and sat in his car. Luka placed his hands on the steering wheel and stared at it. He sighed and face planted into the wheel. His car horn went off, scaring the old woman who was walking past.
"Sorry!" He called out to her. The woman just huffed off, muttering obscenities about him. Luka frowned and started up his car.
Luka once again sat in his car in the day care parking lot. Instead of being one of the last parents there however, he was one of the parents waiting for the children to be let out. Luka couldn't show his inner emotions for fear that the other parents would be watching. He didn't want Mika to be affected by his emotions and actions.
Luka took a deep breath and checked his phone for the fifteenth time. 14.19. Another few minutes and he would be able to get Mika. He hoped that none of the staff or other parents would attempt to interact with him. He just wanted to go in, grab his daughter and leave. Luka leaned back and looked towards the roof of the car. He would go in and say that he had something important to attend. Maybe he could take Mika out for some ice cream. They hadn't done anything like that since Mika's second birthday. He kind of missed it. Going out as a family. All three of them would go out to the park and stroll around. Of course if the ice cream stall was open they'd buy a cone to share.
Luka smiled at the memories. He'd take Mika out for some ice cream at the park. They'd wander round the park. If he went and got bread then they could also feed the ducks. Although, could he afford the extra purchase? He now no longer had a source of income. Luka shook his head. If it meant he would go without a meal and have to walk everywhere after today it would be worth it. Hunger would be worth seeing the smile on Mika's face as she ate ice cream and fed the ducks. He smiled at the thought.
Mika sat in her car seat singing along to the lullaby that was currently being played through the car radio. Luka was driving along the main road occasionally glancing at the rear view mirror to see her. He smiled. He hadn't felt this happy since the incident. As soon as the incident was mentioned his smile faltered. Luka refocused his mind back onto Mika. Today was for her. Today he wouldn't think of Blaine. He would give all his attention to Mika.
Luka decided to head to a differing store to the one he used to work at. He didn't want to interact with any of his old colleagues. The bread may have been slightly more expensive at this store but at least it saved him any unnecessary conversations with ex coworkers he had barely talked to.
The park was rather empty considering it was 2pm on a Saturday. Luka thought that there would have been more people walking in the sun. He was glad there weren't.
They had taken up refuge, from the early afternoon sun, under one of the large oak trees that stood near the edge of the large pond. Mika was sitting staring at the ducks. Her vanilla ice cream in one hand. A bag of bread in the other. Luka smiled at his daughter. He had completely turned his phone off so that nothing could distract him from her. This afternoon was going to be spent entirely with his daughter.
Luka threw a small piece of the bread into the pond for the ducks. He knew you weren't supposed to feed bread to ducks. But at the moment he didn't care. He just wanted to have a lovely and peaceful afternoon to bond with his daughter and relax. To distract his mind from the impending doom that would happen in the following weeks. Luka turned his head towards his daughter. Mika was throwing small clumps of bread not too far from her feet. She had also apparently taken a bread slice for herself. Pieces of the stolen slice were sticking out of her mouth.
"You still hungry, Mika?" Luka asked his daughter happily.
Mika looked up towards her father and nodded happily. She held out the bread bag for him to take. Luka picked her up, bread bag and all, and began carrying her back towards his car.
Luka took the half empty bread bag and placed it on the counter. Today had been a good day. He had accomplished most of his goals for the day. The last task lay silent in his pocket. He knew that Peter would have sent him texts. He had read a few of the notifications before turning the device off earlier that afternoon. He didn't feel like ruining the mood of the afternoon so he set his phone on the counter next to the bread. He'd get to them later.
