Yukion had once again spent the entire night awake. This time his focus had been on Ray. The man perplexed Yukion. His emotions and intent were unreadable. It pissed Yukion off. He enjoyed knowing the thinking process of others, it helped in conversations. With Ray, however, Yukion had no idea what that man could possibly be thinking and it left Yukion without his usual time to think of a response. Yukion groaned and turned onto his back. There was no way he was gonna sleep; not while his mind was attempting to decode Ray's facial expressions. Yukion sat up. Maybe some water or food would help him to fall asleep.
Yukion trudged into the kitchen. He opened the cupboard and pulled out a plastic cup. Quickly and quietly he half filled the cup with water. After grabbing an apple from the fruit basket on the bench, he retreated to his room. Placing his stolen goods on his desk, he sat down and unlocked his laptop. He opened the document containing all the information he had on Luka. The near blank document stared back at him. All he had down was the basic details that had come from meeting with the desperate man and the one sentence of research. Yukion scrolled to the next page. Hoping that he had managed to find something else in his sleep deprived state. Nothing. Another blank page. Yukion groaned and leaned back in his seat. He'd have to interrogate his friends if he was to find any more information. That meant he'd have to help the poor man.
Yukion sighed in frustration. This had been Pebble's plan all along. He slammed his laptop down and face planted back onto his bed. He'd have to go to his cunning friends house and inform him of his decision. Yukion huffed. Not that he'd really been given one.
Yukion stood outside Pebble's home. It was 7.28am. He hoped Pebble was up because he really did not want to be left standing outside. The day reflected Yukion's emotions, the thunderstorm had drenched him as soon as he had stepped out; in time to a large thunderclap, Yukion rang the doorbell. Yukion heard shuffling happening on the other side of the door. He watched the facial expressions on his friend change from an annoyed frown to a smug smirk.
"Knew you'd be interested!" Pebble said. Yukion just glared in response. "Come in. I'll get u a change of clothes." Yukion walked into the house. He left behind a large puddle on the covered porch and a new one was beginning in the entranceway. He slipped his shoes off and left them by the door, with all the other shoes. Yukion remained in the tiled entrance way so as not to dampen the carpet. He made no attempt to dry himself as he waited for Pebble to get back.
Yukion sat at Pebble's desk, his laptop open. The cursor blinking on the blank document. All Pebble had given him was Luka's phone number and address. They had sat in near silence for almost 10 minutes now. All of Yukion's questions were met with the same reply.
"Ask him yourself." Pebble had said several times in the same tone. It was obvious that he wasn't going to budge. Yukion had counted on his friend to provide all sorts of details about the man's life but, as he sat in a borrowed shirt and sweatpants, his friend wasn't going to give in. Yukion sighed and closed his laptop. Placing it back into his damp bag, he looked towards Pebble.
"Fine." He grumbled. "You win." Yukion then glanced away, embarrassed to admit his friend's scheme had succeeded. Pebble, however, was grinning from ear to ear.
"Your clothes will be dry in 20 minutes." Yukion turned to face him again, except he had moved off his bed. Turning around, only to find Pebble leaving the room.
Following his friend into the kitchen, his bag slung lazily over his left shoulder, he pondered Pebble's next move. Maybe he was going to reveal all the information to Yukion now that the boy had forfeited. Or he could just kick Yukion out, where he'd have to research on his own.
The answer was neither. Pebble had prepared breakfast for everyone in the household and Yukion, then once Yukion's clothes had dried, he dragged the boy out to his car. Yukion hunched down further into the passenger seat of Pebble's car. A sudden trip to an unknown location was not on his to do list for today. Yukion pulled the strings of his hoodie tight and crossed his arms. Hoping the metal death machine would stop sometime soon.
Yukion felt the car turn tightly to the left and then stop slowly. They had arrived. Yukion had paid no attention to the directions of where they were going. He trusted his friend enough to know that he wasn't likely in any immediate danger. Yukion cautiously unwrapped his limbs from his body and loosened the hood enough to peek out at the location. A house. Pebble had driven him to a house.
"There."
Yukion jumped at the sound of his friend's voice. Although Pebble had spoken rather quietly, Yukion had been so lost in his own train of thought that the words had spooked him. Yukion turned to glare at his friend, who was now holding a hand up to his mouth, struggling to hold back his laughter. With an annoyed huff, Yukion stepped out of the car and slammed the door angrily.
Yukion turned back round when he heard a faint thump next to him. It was a bag. Pebble had gently dropped it out the passenger window. Yukion looked at his friend confused.
"Send me a text once you're done and I'll come pick you up." Pebble then smiled and backed out the short driveway, leaving Yukion standing in the garden of an unknown person.
Yukion stood still. He was in shock. Pebble had just left. Without him. Yukion huffed and picked his bag up. He turned to glare at the house, but stopped when he saw a small child peeping at him through one of the front windows. As soon as he had noticed her, she ducked behind one of the curtains, her dark curls giving her away.
