Surprised, Fluffy-san looked around in awe. "Is it my birthday? I get to have double the fun!~"
"Don't mock me," the younger said. As the brute stepped forward, a sharp but quick pain was felt through his knee and made him stumble. But he quickly regained his footing.
Fluffy had not noticeably moved, but what was noticeable was mentioned by the eldest ogre brother.
"Junpa, y-your leg-"
"What about it, Shunpa?"
"It- it's gone!"
"What?!" He looked down, and sure enough, it was no longer there.
"Gah! What have you done to my precious leg?!"
"The same thing I did to your other one!" he laughed.
Sure enough, Junpa came crashing down, leaving his other leg behind. He howled in pain, face down on the ground and dragging himself away from Fluffy, but to no avail, "You monster!"
"Glad you noticed, but it's a little late for that, don't ya think?" And with that, he continued on towards the legless giant. In a few seconds, Junpa had not only lost his legs but had also lost his arms and his head.
The eldest, who had witnessed the deaths of both his younger brothers, was livid. "How dare you, you mongrel. I will make you regret this." And having said that, he sent a fist flying towards Fluffy-san's head. But it was short-lived.
Fluffy smirked, then cackled. The ogre was confused and insulted until he felt what had happened.
"ARRRRGGHHH!" He took his hand back and cupped it in pain. Fluffy looked satisfied with himself, and the ogre knew why. When he had gone to punch the sleek hooded figure, his fist was not only stopped but completely shattered by just Fluffy's clawed finger.
"H-how? How are you so powerful?"
"Let me tell you a little secret," he jumped up and whispered into the ogre's ear, "My life occupation is to eradicate this world of stains like you." He landed on the ground, "I had hoped you would cooperate with me and answer my last question." The ogre gulped. "Where. Is. Tsuin?"
The ogre's face dropped. "Just who are you?"
"I am just a kitsune looking for the man who murdered my family."
SPLAT! The ogre's head fell to the ground.
The villagers who were hiding came outside, and when they looked and saw the ogre's lifeless bodies, they cheered with joy. "No more sacrifice! No more ogres! Time for the hunt! We've restored order!" They got ready for the festival and awaited nightfall.
"Why do we wait for nightfall, Jii-chan?" his granddaughter asked Seoto.
"Because that is when the kitsune rests on his long journey. He lays down to regain stamina, his back turned towards the moon, and in the morning, he returns to carry out his evil deeds."
The little girl nodded, giggling gleefully, and ran off to join her mother in the hut across the way. Fluffy looked at the village leader and noticed a flute on his person. It seemed oddly familiar.
"Where did you get that?" he asked.
The older man answered, "A man sold it to me for cheap. It belonged to royalty, or so he said. I haven't had much luck in using it, so here. Take it as a bonus."
Fluffy grabbed it, along with a bag of gold coins. "Thank you."
"Don't mention it. Now we hunt."
"Hold it. Now, who exactly are we hunting? There are many kitsune, and I am sure that they don't want to end up dead without reason."
"Oh, we know how to search for him. He is the only kitsune left who can wield a white flame."
"A... white flame-" At that moment, he knew they had to leave. This, precisely, is what happens when you spend years hunting and training in the forest, knowing very well that there is a possibility of being seen. "I need to, uh, get going. We have a long journey ahead of us, and it is cooler to travel at night."
"Oh, that is fine. Once again, to whom do I owe my thanks?"
"Fluf-"
"Taro! We have an emergency. They are hunting you!" Rekka screamed from the roof of the house.
Taro whipped around and gave him a dirty look. " I know, and now so does everyone else." He hopped onto the roof and gave the crowd an apologetic smile. "Sorry for leaving so early, but I can't die just yet."
And once again, the town was in an uproar. Torches were being passed, weapons were handed out, and children and women were rushed into their homes.
Taro and his friends ran over rooftops, even a dead-end in the trees, until finding an abandoned building deep in the forest.
They heard the heavy footsteps of the mob pass by quickly, and Taro was clearly upset.
"How many times do I have to tell you?! Don't say my name in public. You know they are looking for me." Rekka rolled his eyes.
"We're sorry, Master. But we can't call you that. It's too-" Shikari chirped.
I cut her off, clearly offended, "Too what? Too long? Too hard to remember?"
"No, it's too funny!" Rekka blurted out, giggling and holding his sides.
I shushed him as townsfolk rushed past our hiding spot once again, then proceeded to ask angrily, "How is Vixen-san funny?!"
"Sir, a vixen is a female fox-" Akari said, barely able to stifle the laugh that threatened to escape her throat.
"Great. Now you tell me."
I roll my eyes in disbelief as my underlings spare my makeshift identity no ridicule. If they could have come up with better names themselves, Fluffy Vixen-san would have never been born. But here we are, in this minka, hiding out. Without my quick thinking, we would have never made it this far.
It started just under 400 years ago. The search for me and my underlings. All of this pain was caused by a misunderstanding. Just because I was the last one standing there with blood all over me. I was the criminal. I was a murderer.
Suddenly, the door was kicked down, and a burning torch was thrown in. Taro had flashbacks to that night. Fire. Everywhere. He screamed in agony, and a blinding flash surrounded them. Everyone felt strangely at ease as if the light was somewhere they had been before. Then everything went black.
