Theon would speak again “That is good, thank you Caiden- well, here we are-your hand is done. Don’t use it too much or else it will tear the threads and make sure not to put too much weight on it as well.” Theon would smile happily as he leaned back, cleaning his hand off with a towel and starting to put away the various supplies back into the small box.
“So, you are the crazy tinkerer everyone talks about, right?” I would chime up, raising an eyebrow as I rubbed the back of my bandaged hand, gently examining the adeptly done wraps. I simply heard a laughter come around the corner as Theon turned it to return the box to wherever it came from.
“I am hardly crazy, I am eccentric, there is a colossal difference between the two, and second, I am not a tinkerer, I am an inventor. A tinkerer is someone who creates small trinkets and clockwork and such. I am an inventor, we create machines and inventions of all kinds, this sometimes can be similar work to a tinkerer, but they are not the same. For example, one of my greatest works is- this!” He would call out from behind the corner before hopping back into view with a massive grin spanning from ear to ear. He held something behind his back, quickly moving it into the front so I could see.
It was a box about the size of a hand chest. It was completely made of clean and shimmering bronze with an inlaying of gold and silver along its edges. There were multiple dark screws that were embedded into the corners and edges. Theon would walk over to the table again, sitting down and placing the box on the corner.
“What-what does it do?” I would ask, my eyebrows raised at the strange box that sat quietly and peacefully in front of me. Theon would simply chuckle before reaching to one side and flipping a small lever. A hissing sound began to emanate from the box as it started shuffling. The metal pieces would begin to shift and bend, steam hissing out of different tubes that looped and were fused together into the shining and shifting metal. It would keep folding outward and inward, the metal twisting and folding and within a minute or two there was a copper, silver, gold, and bronze creature, in the shape of a tawny owl, sitting in front of me, turning its head back and forth, whirring as it did so.
It would spin its head around and meet its bronze framed, glass eyes at me. It craned its neck as it whirred and whistled, doing a little clack at the end.
“This is 0R1, or Ori. He is my greatest creation, a robot made to search, see things and examine the world. He also sometimes helps with my inventions and cleaning up. He is quite helpful” Theon would whistle a sharp whistle, pointing towards a pile of scraps. The owl would turn its head, look at the pile and then turn back towards Theon who would pull out a small toothpick like piece of dark metal. Ori would lean forward, staring at the piece for a few seconds before opening his wings up and taking flight towards the pile of scraps that rested on one of the messy tables.
It would land on Ezra’s shoulder who would stop working and look at it with a small smirk, almost challenging it. It would crane its head, examining the pile of silver, gold, and copper pieces of metal in the shape of gears, screws, broken tools, and many other small slivers and junks of metals. Ori would leap again and land on the pile, burrowing its face into the scarps, pushing the pieces out of the way, digging deeper into it as it searched.
After a few moments of sounds of metal moving, it would hop up and fly back to Theon, landing in front of him, holding a small piece of metal in its robotic beak. It would lean down and place the sliver of dark metal in front of Theon with a small clank.
