It’s was very hot afternoon as Skylar finds herself at a nook inside the city library. Earlier, she was trying to study for the final set of exams for tomorrow but because of exhaustion, she fell asleep.
“Help!” A voice exclaimed.
Skylar springs up from her slumber. Surprised to hear someone scream inside the library, she stands and takes a look around.
She peeks through the shelves, goes to the second level, checks every nook and cranny there is, but there is no one in sight.
After a while, it slowly starts to get eerie as the sun goes down. Skylar realizes that the library had a lot more people in it before she dozed off.
The silence is deafening, the only thing she hears is the wind blowing from the air conditioners.
She hears faint clacking sounds, but she sees nothing.
“I think it’s time to leave,” she said to herself, rushing to grab her things on the table where she left them.
She gets to the entrance of the library. At the entrance is a large double doors that has stained glass designed all over it. She tried to push the large doors, but it wouldn’t budge.
“Just what is happening?” She said as she turned around, looking at the empty library.
Then, all of the sudden, the power goes out; the gleaming rays coming from the moon passing through the glass windows light up the library.
Skylar’s breathing starts to get heavier as fear slowly envelops her psyche. She feels defenseless and clutches her bag tightly; looking around the space from left to right.
A sound comes from the distance. It’s faint but it's clear enough to understand that it sounded like a voice.
Skylar slowly makes her way towards where she heard the sound. She hears clacking sounds along with a sound that seems to give out the impression that something is being dragged across the floor.
She started to hear faint laughter and scratching as she got nearer to the place where she heard the faint voice.
She reaches the rows of computer stations. In the middle of the aisles, there sat a shadowy figure. It looks like a child from behind, crying on the floor, while another shadow, a tall one, stands right beside it.
“Are you alright?” Skylar said to them.
The child doesn’t answer and continues to cry. Skylar approaches the child, hoping to give comfort but then the computer monitors start to simultaneously open and close as the computer towers constantly beep, powering on and off.
“What the--“ Skylar said, looking around at the computers.
The computers stop and the surroundings become silent. Skylar turns back to the child and sees that the child has disappeared.
“Where--“ Skylar said, confused.
“Behind you,” a voice whispered.
Skylar is dragged by the hair across the halls. Her screams echoed across the dead-silent library.
She’s slammed on the entrance doors. The glass cracks as she falls on the ground.
“How did you get here, little woman?” a deep and eerie voice said.
Skylar comes to and looks up. Above her—floating in the middle of the room—is a lady with long hair wearing a long-tattered dress that is burnt all over. Beside her, a little girl, not over seven, was being held by the throat. The child has dolls all over her, hugging her tightly and keeping her from moving an inch.
“So, this is a dream?” Skylar said to herself.
“A dream? No, a nightmare!” the floating lady said from behind Skylar.
The floating lady pushes Skylar with great force. The strong force pummels Skylar to the rows of bookshelves 10 feet from where she originally was. The shelves topple over like dominoes making loud crashing sounds.
Skylar grunts, feeling all the pain from the impact. She slowly crawls her way out of the debris and forces herself to stand.
“A phantom…” Skylar said as she starts getting shrouded by beaming lights and energy.
The light fades away and she’s changed into her reaper clothes. She extends her hand out to her side and the Scythe of Eons appears with a glowing red aura. Skylar clutches the Scythe, and the red aura imbues itself to Skylar, changing her eye color from black to a glowing shade of red.
“A reaper? I've heard of your kind, but I didn't expect to be able to see one so soon,” The floating lady exclaimed; laughing maniacally.
Skylar slowly walks toward the floating lady, tightly gripping her scythe by her side. The floating lady tightens her grasp on the child’s neck as she shows a disturbing smile. Skylar looks towards the floating lady, preparing herself for her first actual battle against a real phantom.
