I walked absentmindedly towards my apartment building. I felt something nudged my knees that kind of woke me up. I looked down and saw a child picking up a ball. She looked at me and said sorry. I answered back with an “it’s okay” and smiled. She smiled back and ran to her playmates. I followed her with my sight until she arrived in front of her playmates. The weather seems to be good since there are many children playing at this park accompanied by their mothers and babysitters.
I walked along the sides of the park as I said my hello to those I know along the way. I strutted towards my apartment building. I greeted my landlady and her companion as I entered the premises of the building. I continued walking towards where my apartment is located when the landlady called my name. I looked back puzzled.
“You remember the package you told me about? It came. I already put it in front of your door,” she said.
“Thank you, Ma’am. Was there anything they mentioned?”, I asked.
“Hmm, they just mentioned that you could take your time. Other than that, there’s nothing anymore,” she answered.
And with some hesitation she added, “Your package, it’s thin. Like some sort of file or paper. I’m not really sure.”
“You just check it out," she smilingly said.
“Thank you so much again, Ma’am,’’ I sincerely said.
“You’re welcome,” she replied cheerfully. Then, she continued chatting with her companion.
I continued walking to the right side of the building. This building is a two-storey type divided into 9 apartments. My apartment is located on the first floor of the building, so it didn’t take long for me to arrive in front of my apartment door.
Just like what the landlady mentioned, the package was in front of my door. I picked it up and did not look at it anymore. I inserted my key and opened the door. I stepped inside the room, changed out of my shoes to my house slippers. I walked inside and put my bag as well as the package on the nearby table.
I slumped on the sofa and stared blankly at the wall as if everything would be okay if I did so. As if everything would be answered if I did so. But all I got was a blurry vision of the wall and tears cascading down my face. As everything came crumbling down, I cried my heart out. I wanted to scream, I wanted to sob so hard, but I am exhausted that all I can bring myself to do is let my tears fall.
For three whole years, I did my best to be deserving of him. I worked as hard as I can so that, I would be able to stand beside him someday. But, I guess I am only a temporary person in his life. A plaything he said. Someone who he needed to pass his subject. Someone he did not need in his future. Someone who is meant only to stay for a short while.
This really hurts like hell.
I want to take my heart out so I wouldn’t feel this pain anymore. But I can’t, because once I do, I would cease on living.
I cried for a long time until my eyes were tired. I looked around my apartment. I noticed the clock hanging on the wall in front of my study table. It’s already 6:00 pm. I’ve been crying for hours already.
I’m hungry. I need to eat. I looked towards my kitchen. But I don’t have the energy to cook. So, I did not move. I closed my tired eyes until I lost consciousness.
For someone who thought she was lucky all her life, it turns out everything were lies. What would she do after? Will she sink deep into the ocean of misery or will she rise above the remnants of those lies?
