After a few more hours of everyone getting in their lasts few games, their last few fighting matches out of the way, and doing last minute strategizing, it was time for lunch. There was everything from the finest beef they could make, whole roasted pigs, chicken, turkey they had been preparing for a month, desserts, drinks, it was the best meal most of the colonists ever had. After much celebration, and a toast given by the highest ranking general on board, it was time for everyone to load into their pods and be sent to their new lives.
Will buckled in, nervous. And watched as everyone else got into their seats. The pod had three floors to it, the first two had large open seating areas and the third was where the soldiers and the pilots were, just in case the autopilot failed. The rest of the pod was composed of multiple rooms and storage units. When the countdown reached zero, everyone took a deep breath as they realized there was no going back, they were launching.
Just as the launch was happening, everyone felt a jolt as The Endeavor was rumbling, as though it had been hit with something. Everyone panicked and the pilots managed to set the pod free, as they did, another pod collided with their pod and they spun wildly. Everyone felt the spin and everyone was screaming. The pilots barely managed to take control and fly the pod towards the planet. As they broke through the atmosphere, a few of the colonists’ seatbelts came undone, including Will’s. While everyone was panicking, Will remained calm.
‘It’s now or never, thank you Johnathan.’
He made his way towards the upper floors and vanished.
The few who were now being thrashed around managed to secure themselves by tying the seatbelt in a knot around their waist, better than nothing. The pod’s parachutes had been slowing their descent, but they still hit the ground hard and tumbled for a few seconds before coming to a complete stop.
Everyone took a deep breath in relief that they were still alive, and immediately made their way to the large metal door and tested the atmosphere outside before opening it. Everyone was mesmerized and walked outside to see their new home, they had never smelt air this fresh before. From the third floor, Will, Johnathan, Thomas, and Zoe heard a terrifying shriek and went to investigate.
When they arrived, they found Wardener panicking and asked what happened.
“Th-the soldiers,” he cried out, in a terrified voice, “they’re all… d-dead!”
He pointed them to the room where the soldiers were sitting, and they were all strewn about, dead. Their seatbelts had become undone and before they could react the pod had crashed, throwing them about and killing them. The pilots were dead too, which explained why the pod had crashed.
“Oh my god..” Thomas said, he rarely got shocked but this was too much for him.
Zoe was breaking down, “guys… they were supposed to protect and assist us… holy hell, holy shit this is bad.” Will had never heard Zoe swear before. “w-w-we are… we are…” she tried to spit the words out but she was in too much shock. Finally, she was able to get it out.
“We are totally FUCKED!” She ran away, screaming again and again,
“WE ARE FUCKED.”
