An unusual class of high school students live in a haunted town surrounded by massive trees that block out any natural light from the sky, the trees are worshipped by cults, studied by scientists, and can grant individuals of faith magic powers, but usually they are ignored by the people living under them, as the trees have been there as long as anyone can remember. The reader is guided through this story by an unnamed narrator who seems to exist in a limbo just outside of the one every other character inhabits, and occasionally breaks into fits of hysteria.
