Originally, when Mirat was revealed in the mirror, he was supposed to be an amorphous silhouette. The readers wouldn't be sure what he was and the "scare" would be when Mirat comes out of the mirror. He wasn't going to be revealed to have a monstrous form until the page where he tries to eat Charcoal. While coloring I thought it would be neat to incorporate signs that he was trying to shapeshift along with Charcoal, implying he couldn't really keep up. Well, my stylus got away from me and the result looked so freakish it's kind of a relief that Mirat is just a giant rat. His triple-tongued, hinge-jaw form wasn't nearly as disturbing. Oh well.
Charcoal is a cat with the brain of a cat and the power of a god. When the divine feline takes a shine to Satan himself, the Prince of Darkness must care for a tiny kitty who is as cute as he is horrifying.
Bear witness to pet ownership on a cosmic level as Charcoal brings home man-sized snakes, summons gods to give him treats, and naps in the laps of Titans. Wherever head goes, cat goes, and sometimes cat goes to space. Don't get upset Satan; Charcoal's just being a kitty.
