Here’s what she realizes: Gods are finite. Mortals have no limits. Like a corvus, humans are feeble at birth because they are so advanced. Then, they take a very long time to grow. Well, what if you remove their limits and allow them to continue growing steadily? That’s something only a god could do. So, she can have multiple mortals under her thrall that are like this. So, she has DC, the original. Then V, who has outstanding potential, but is more like a sacrificial piece to distract the gods. Let me explain that. I imagine DC as the one true piece for her to win. She has put all of her time and energy already into nurturing him and little does the audience know, he has been single handedly warring against the gods and has killed multiple, even though he is a mortal. This has led to the creation, or rather, destruction, of the zones now known as ‘destruction zones’. She will prop up V as “the one”, which granted, he is, he has more potential than DC but in the end she knows she won’t actually need it all. DC is enough. She will proclaim to the god’s early that she is the true god, telling them V will destroy them all if they don't listen, they will laugh and act hastily thinking this deity is some kind of idiot for proclaiming V, who isn’t anywhere near the peak of his power, to be able to overthrow them. Now, it would be more beneficial for the deity to just nurture V to his full potential but let’s say she couldn’t discover him until too late, and was forced to take drastic action. Perhaps she was only able to find him because of the way his body or latent powers reacted with DC’s battles that created the destruction zones.
So, she finds V late, and has to make the decision that she will nurture him as much as possible but when she realizes it will not be enough, settles with DC as the finisher for the gods, and uses V as bait, betraying him and his feelings. By this point V will be fully enthralled by her anyhow, and won’t feel an ounce of betrayal. She betrays him alright, doesn’t tell him a thing, and sends him to die like a dog, but upon realization of this he only feels loved and satisfied that he could be of use.
Now let’s go into the backstory of the gods: There once was a True God. Z, if you will. He split his powers into all the other gods that exist in order to have more manpower to manage the world. He created gods that specialized in certain aspects of nature. Some focused on extremely niche things. Some fell from grace. Some overlapped. Some had no purpose and were seen as useless. The Deity was a powerless god. She most likely is seen as having no purpose, or perhaps, not even known, just hiding in the shadows. The true god eventually took his power and dispersed it to the Earth, which bred exponentially more complex species of organisms as time went on. This brought his untimely decline and he quickly ran out of power. Eventually, the apes evolved, and the humans, of which evolved with the most of Z’ power, evolved. They were thought to be feeble by the gods and overall, no one understood Z’ decision. It was the height of a folly. The humans which maintained Z’ genetics, let's call them, were feeble, but they held consciousness, which was arguably why gods are separate from organisms. The gods cast them off and ignored them with their stubbornness, never acknowledging their potential as a species that beared Z’ power, almost jealous. Instead of continuing their faithful duties after Z’ absence, they began quarreling amongst themselves. They always had, but Z was always there to mediate between them. Without him things grew progressively worse. They developed a caste system amongst themselves, separating themselves into hierarchies of influence and playing noble games amongst themselves. They tried to play these games because none of them truly had any overwhelming advantages over the others, except for the fact that if they developed factions, then the largest faction with the most influence could influence the other factions to do their bidding. And so they fought for influence. A castaway god, living in the shadows, was struck with an idea: while the gods are occupied with themselves over their limited resources, why doesn’t she visit the mortal realm? They have near infinite resources compared to the gods. Hell, Z himself gave all of his resources to the mortals instead of the gods. There is a lot for the taking. So she began plotting. Soon, she found out about the mortal potential that Z had instilled in them. Humans. They are cunning creatures and if one sets aside their pride, they are just as cunning as the gods. The only issue is that they are feeble but even this can be remedied with the influence of a god.
