Hehe, hi Elly." Lillian was greeted as Elyn walked inside their train car. Elyn waved back as she dragged herself to the makeshift bed that Tollkeeper had made for her.
For once, Elyn truly felt like she could get some proper rest. The night before was undoubtedly one of the most pleasant nights the young guardian had experienced.
"It’s more comfortable than I thought." She said this while lying down on the bed, her eyes closing and opening every few seconds.
"Shh, get some sleep, Elly." Lillian said as she poked Elyn’s nose.
Finally giving in, Elyn went straight to sleep, her body no longer able to stay awake. Her eyes closed for good as she finally fell asleep.
Lillian looked at the sleeping teen below her. With a small smile on her face, the familiar gently sprinkled a dust-like cloud over her.
"Sweet dreams, Elyn." She said as she flew away:
Lillian didn’t have much knowledge of the human world besides what her master told her firsthand. She could listen to him talk for hours about the most mundane of human knowledge. From great ancient civilizations to a new children’s toy, Naaririel could talk about any random fact for pretty much the whole day.
So what better way to spend the day than exploring this fine art of human engineering? Hearing about these amazing discoveries was one thing, but seeing them firsthand was a different experience. Elyn would most likely be knocked out for a couple of hours, and Naaririel, at this moment, was most likely asking a hundred questions to whoever was controlling this contraption.
Suddenly, the savory smell of smoky bacon filled the air and abruptly interrupted the fae’s wondering thoughts. What better way to start any journey than with breakfast? Lillian, like Naaririel, didn’t need to eat, but the human world has spoiled them a bit.
"Mmm, this smells so good." Lillian said, letting the aroma guide her to the destination.
It was a food wonderland as far as Lillian could take it. Towers of sweet, fluffy pancakes with newly cooked potatoes and fresh herbs and spices Fresh fruits and a beautiful pile of bacon
Wanting to try a little of everything, she went to the breakfast buffet.
"Do you need help with anything?" a voice asked.
Lillian looked at the voice in question; it belonged to a guy who, from Lillian’s point of view, was an absolute giant. His stomach was just as big as his arms, which showed that the figure in question did ample amounts of physical labor. However, the main thing that drew her attention was the lavender cloak he wore.
"Oh, another guardian." Lillian answered happily.
"My name is Costaark," he answered, grabbing a pair of plates, one for him and one of a more suitable size for the fae.
"Costaark,I’m Lillian."
Thanks to Costaark’s help, Lillian had a nice variety of delectable treats. She summoned a small portal and placed her food inside.
"Costaark, that’s an orc name, right?" Lillian asked as both of them sat down at an empty table.
Taking a bite of the pancake,he nodded with a huge grin on his face.
"Yup, I’m half orc on my mom’s side," he answered proudly.
Elyn sat in the middle of the flower fields, taking in the warmth of the sun. This was nice,so this is what a dream was; it was perfectly pleasant.
She lay down, gazing at the blue skies, as her imagination ran wild, making up stories of the different shapes of clouds.
"Elyn, look, doesn’t that cloud look like a castle?" Elias said that, of course, he was still at the tender age of ten. Tears formed in Elyn’s eyes as she stared at her brother.
"Elyn, what’s wrong?" He was extremely worried.
Elyn shook her head, not wanting the tears to stop; after all, it’s been a long time since she felt true happiness.
" Nothing." She answered, wiping the tears.
The two siblings laid down, gazing at the clouds and enjoying the sun with only the musical stylings of chirps and tweets of various songbirds.
For once in a decade, Elyn slept with a smile on her face.
Putting his mask back on, Naaririel waved goodbye to the orb and made his way back inside the train, closing the door behind him. He couldn’t explain why, but he felt like this day was meant to be wonderful. In a few measly human hours, the trio will have a new city to explore.
Yes, it was a good day if one didn’t count the growing, lingering smell of rotting flesh slowly filling the air. A small fleshy substance latched itself onto the wheels of the train absorbing the lone orb as the soul lost its light.
Naaririel sighed as he opened a small portal.
“Lillian.” He called
“ Master guess…”
Naaririel held his hand not having enough time to hear the rest of familiar’s likely fascinating conversation.
“Lillian I need you to keep an eye on Elyn.”
