Iama is the god of death, lord of the spirits of the dead and guardian of the underworld. He's also the one who measures the balance of Karma when someone dies: we might consider him some kind of a "Karma god", despite the fact that Karma is something you make by yourself. Iama is just the one who imparts the reward or the punishment, depending on type of karma you have accumulated with your free will.
