The five of them stepped out of the car, watching their surroundings with curious or doubtful expressions. Jasmine was quick to plop her keys right in Mason's unsuspecting hand.
"You take care of my baby, you hear me?" She warned him lowly, giving Mason a dark and frankly evil glare.
Mason rolled his eyes as subtly as he could but nodded nonetheless.
"Don't worry, your child is in safe hands." Mason replied, sending her his most concerned and sympathetic gaze before he rushed off to join the others. While they could faintly hear the beat if they strained their ears, the five of them were unsure of where the club actually stood. Compared to the other bars and clubs nearby, this place seemed dead.
No line was winding outside and the sign for "Youth Boardgames" didn't make anyone optimistic for what's inside. Behind the cheap glass door was a flight of stairs that went up, and stairs leading downwards. Next to the door were three mailboxes. Mason assumed that the boxes numbered 1&2 were for the probable tenants on the upper floor.
"Is this even the right place?" Kellie asked, unable to keep the thought and confusion inside her head. Mark, who still appeared doubtful of the place's appearance, nodded.
"Daniel's the one who found this place. He wouldn't lead us to some random shop." Mark told her with certainty and confidence that looked really attractive in Mason's eyes.
We love a man who is . . . Mark . . .
Mason came back into focus when Mark began walking forward.
"Come on, let's go in." Mark didn't wait for any of their replies, starting his way down the steps. Now inside, there were many more stairs than expected, and they went down two more levels. Jasmine was making a huge fuss as they went down, whining about her heels and complaining about so many stairs before a club.
"It doesn't even make sense." Jasmine groaned unhappily, heels clicking obnoxiously as her steps became heavier. "Do they want all of our drunk asses to trip over ourselves as we try to leave?"
"Jasmine, you complaining will not help you or anyone else here get down these stairs any faster." Mark sighed, sending his sister a weak glare before he got to the bottom. Mark decided to wait at the bottom for Jasmine who still had a deep pout on her face, holding her hand as she came down the last steps.
The five of them found themselves staring at a long hallway, the walls going from a plain beige to splatter paint toward the end. A smile came on to Mason's face, seeing that they may actually be in the right place. He and Clark jumped back when Jasmine and Kellie simultaneously let out loud squeals.
Despite the heels, the two of them began to jog down the hallway, followed by a laughing Clark. Mason was still standing still, simply watching the three ahead, but suddenly noticed that Mark hadn't moved either. He looked up at Mark and found the taller boy staring down at him with a complicated expression.
After several moments of holding his gaze, Mark coughed and broke the contact. Mark made a gesture for Mason to follow him before he began walking down the long hall as well. They weren't even halfway down before their friends were opening the large door, music pounding for the short moment that the door opened. When the two of them were in relative silence again, Mason thought of attempting some small talk.
"So, what are your plans for tonight?" He asked, wincing as the words sounded awkward to his ears. Mark shrugged, eyes focused ahead of them.
"I want to act irresponsible and dance as if I'm not responsible for Jasmine's well being as well as mine." He answered with little hesitation in his strong voice. "With any luck, someone else will watch her tonight."
Mason chuckled, seeing the small smirk on Mark's face.
"I may help you out here and there but I am going to act as crazy as I can without being drunk." Mason commented, slipping in his plan for the night as well.
"Good plan." Mark chuckled, putting his fist out to Mason.
"Good plan." Mason repeated, bumping Mark's fist with his own. Without realizing it, the two had already stopped in front of the large door. Mark glanced down at Mason, a gleam in his eye and a smirk on his lips as he faced the smaller boy.
"You ready for a good time?" Mark asked, hand resting teasingly on the door handle. Mason grinned, returning Mark's excited look.
"You bet your tight ass I am." The moment the words were out of his mouth, Mason considered trying to take it back, but Mark didn't give him any time. Mark smiled widely at Mason comment before opening the door.
The loud pounding of music and the familiar sight of coloured lights returned the smile to Mason's face. But, the entire club was behind a man and a woman, dressed in all black with two rows of velvet rope behind them.
Mason suddenly wondered if the night would end before they even entered the club. All of his worries were for nothing when they saw Daniel come from further into the club, a wide but dazed smile on his face. He was already tipsy, but neither Mason nor Mark were surprised.
"These guys are the last two I was telling you about." Daniel told the bouncers casually, looking from Mason and Mark to the woman standing to our right. "They're above 15, just like you asked."
While the lady looked at Daniel in a way that clearly told the two that she knew him, she didn't even start to reach for the rope.
"I still need to see some sort of ID from you two." She told them simply, waiting as the reached into our pockets to pull it out. The moment that she confirmed they were way over 15, she and her partner made quick work of opening the ropes and getting them through.
Mark went over to Daniel quickly, smacking him on the back with a wide grin.
"Thanks, man, how did you even get that setup?" Mark asked, arm thrown over Daniel's shoulder as he spoke. Daniel quickly shook his head, a small smile on his face before he spoke.
"You don't need to know. Just trust that I got connections and you can call me when you want to get into this club." Daniel said, the answer typical to what he usually told his friends when they asked him about his ways. "They are underground for a reason."
Mason perked up, his curiosity coming back tenfold.
"What's the reason?" He asked, watching as Daniel's face contorted into a wide grin. The three of them stopped, standing in front of a sea of people. The dance floor was wide, allowing for plenty of space between the dancing bodies, the bars lining two of the walls next to them and on the left side had teens nearly shoulder to shoulder as they attempted to get drinks.
Over to the right were several tables and booths, so many that only half of them were filled. Mason noticed some stairs in the far right corner, noticing how they led up to the second balcony level where people made out and talked over the thumping music. The place looked amazing, and Mason found himself turning back to Daniel with wide eyes.
"It's underground because if more people knew about this place, it would be impossible to get in."
Daniel slipped out from under Mark's arm, cheering as he went straight into the crowd of dancing people. Mason looked up at Mark and found that the taller boy had one of the widest smiles on his face.
"Let's get this night started!" Mark cheered running in after his friend. Mason laughed, shaking his head at Mark's newfound energy before he jumped in as well.
Tonight was going to be great.
