The location turned out to be a large alleyway that wasn’t far from where we were. “If we hurry, we might make it before sunset,” I stated. “Do you have some kind of plan to capture him?”
“Yep!” Sabrina took off sprinting. I sighed and followed after her.
When we got there, Sabrina motioned for me to follow her up to the roof. She used some crates to hop up like a cat onto a wall, which she used to jump up to the rafters.
“Do you need me up there?” I whispered hoarsely. She paused for a moment, thinking, then waved me away. “Thank goodness,” I thought.
It was nearly sunset, and we saw a small group of people down the main road with an enchanted cart. “That must be for carrying the goods.” I surmised. I positioned myself in an area covered in shadow where I could watch. I was very curious to see what Sabrina would do.
The group with the cart entered the alleyway and stopped near a door that led into one of the houses lining the street. The door opened, and someone inside began speaking with Claw. Soon, the people started loading crates into the cart.
”TAKE THAT SCUM!” I heard Sabrina yell from her perch on top of a roof. This was followed by a “poof” sound, so he peered around the corner again. Pale green smoke was billowing out of the cart. The men who had been loading it began coughing.
“WHAT IS THE MEANING OF-“ Claw began, then started hacking and wheezing along with the rest of his crew.
One by one, the men fell over. They lay around the cart looking dead.
Once the smoke had cleared, Sabrina hopped down from the roof and landed gracefully, like a cat. “They’re only asleep.” She said, looking around proudly at her work. I walked over and nudged one of the sleeping cronies with his boot.
“Sleeping powder. Clever.”
“I wouldn’t have a chance in a straight-out fight, so I came up with something that would allow me to take out targets without much fuss. My sister helped me make them.” She walked over to Claw and started dragging him over to the cart.
”You have a sister?” I decided to attempt to engage in small talk, something I was very unskilled at, as I walked over and lifted the unconscious Claw by the shoulders while Sabrina lifted his legs. To this day my social skills are still lacking.
“She’s technically not my sister, but her mother cared for me when I was younger, so we grew up together. I live with her now after her mom died. She runs an infirmary.” I remembered when Sabrina had run into an infirmary before we left. It must be the one that her sister worked at.
“Let’s get him into this cart. It will be easier to carry him that way.”Sabrina puffed. “He’s a lot heavier than he looks!”
"Where are we taking him?” I asked as we heaved Claw into the cart. “And what about the others?”
Sabrina looked back at the other passed-out pirates. “None of them have any bounties. They aren’t important.”
“If you say so.” I knocked on the wooden cart three times to activate its enchantment and It began rolling in the direction it was pointed.
“We need to take him to the jailhouse. That’s where the Sheriff is. He’ll give us the money.” Sabrina paused, then said. “That guy really gets on my nerves…”
“How so?” I asked.
“well, he’s a slimy, vile, no-good pig.”
“Mmm,” I replied wordlessly.
“Just wait ‘til you see him in action…” Sabrina said with a scowl.
