The individual has sat down next to us. They are grabbing our hand and flexing our fingers. The joints in motion gives us a sense that we may understand which nerves must be used to move that ligament. “Nod if you can feel this.” Their request contradicts their words. Is this not to test if we can move at all? How would we proceed to nod? Still, we will attempt to comply.
We feel muscle tissue flexing in the neck as we lean our head forward. We allow our head to drop once, then quickly bring it back to position. To think mortals do things like this without consideration is incredible. “Good. I didn’t think you could move your neck, so that helps.” So their words were a ruse from the beginning. They had not expected us to move at all. They tested several other ligaments before giving us a final decision.
“Well, it looks like your nervous system is fine, so getting you back on your feet should be easy enough.” They say this with such confidence. Had they known this was our first time in a mortal body, perhaps they would understand the difficulty to meet such high expectations. “We’ll get you into physical therapy starting tomorrow. Just practice moving your fingers and holding your bladder for now.” The medical individual has taken his leave. What was that part he had mentioned? The… bladder? That is the waste collector on a mortal’s body, is it not? You must control those of your own volition? Being mortal is quite the complicated task.
Regardless, we will proceed to learn while we have this moment. We must flex our own fingers. We must remember the sensation felt when the individual moved them. We can feel the muscle tissue tightening as we begin to lift the arm. A strenuous task, but we have succeeded at lifting it! We must move the fingers now. As we feel for each muscle, we began to understand the general idea of what is required to move these joints. At last, we have successfully moved our arms and fingers!
This… Excitement! Yes! Excitement! This is that same warm feeling we felt when the creator allowed us to be mortal! We wish to move everything on our mortal body! We wish to learn it all! Soon, we will master all mortal bodily functions, then finally, we will learn…
To Stand on Our Own!
… Wait. There is now a different sensation. One that seems to also leave us feeling warm, but in a different way. A feeling in our lower half. We raise our head to inspect this feeling. It appears that our bladder has not successfully been tamed yet. This... gives us a new feeling… to not want to be seen… shame, I believe it’s called.
Death knows itself and the rule it controls. All that lives must one day die. However, for the first time in their existence, Death questions why living things strive to continue when deep in their minds, they understand that all must eventually succumb to the rule. What makes them want to fight so hard to live? There must be something that keeps them from seeking the inevitable end.
Death speaks to the creator to ask for advice but still doesn't understand the creator's reasoning. Therefore, the creator allows for Death to experience life, sending them into the bodies of recently deceased people, and allowing them to find their own answers to their questions until the rule claims the deceased once more.
